We are looking for a General Accountant that is an energetic multi-tasker, has a keen eye for detail, and a passion for numbers.
Reporting directly to the Senior Operations Business Partner, your time will be spent overseeing the functions of Payroll, Accounts Payable and Receivable, as well as actively contributing to financial analysis and quarterly financial reporting.
Responsible for ensuring all aspects of the payroll cycle for all salaried and hourly employees are processed and administered in a timely and accurate manner, in accordance with agency and government policies.
This includes, but is not limited to :
Investigating and resolving payroll issues with Management at various operating locations.
Configurate system and issue payments for the pandemic related wage enhancement according to government’s regulation and organizational policies
Create and / or run reports from payroll or time and attendance system.
Ensure the timely processing of journal entries into the accounting system.
Prepare reconciliations for payroll accounts.
Prepare and submit payroll deductions and remittances on a timely basis and ensure records are up to date.
Prepare T4’s / T2200, year-end process, ROE’s, and various payroll reports as requested
Reconcile WSIB, EHT, employee benefits, and other payroll deductions for monthly reporting and annual returns.
Mileage payments to employees
Maintain QSS online paystub system
Track all withholding deductions for CRA on accurate manner and submit to Senior business operations
Responsible for ensuring all deposits and / or AR JEs for each month into Great Plains accurately. This includes, but is not limited to :
Client Fee payments, Debt / Credit Memo, Grants and Donation
Tracking other payments from various parties
Entering donation payments and issue tax receipts
Handling vendors’ inquiries
Maintains the petty cash fund by monitoring available funds, replenishing funds, and reconciling used funds with receipts and reports.
Completes the reconciliation of Visa, phone bills, expense reports, bank deposits, staff benefits carrier and statements to partner organizations.
Monitors outstanding transaction.
Month end and Reporting
Support month end closing, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reports for government and funding agencies
Assist annual filing of WSIB, EHT, HST and ensure that HST and Registered Charity Information Return are submitted in a timely and accurate manner
Prepare general ledger reconciliation including bank statements, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses and required adjusting entries for review.
Recording of revenue and receivables and work closely with team to ensure program expenditures are compliance with funding contracts
Maintain detailed records and documentation of payroll, payable and other accounting functions for audit purposes in accordance with statutory requirements
Other ad hoc duties
Audit Preparation and Risk Mitigation
Ensure compliance with internal practices, policies, and guidelines as well as appropriate Federal and Provincial legislation
Maintain current knowledge of employment standards and accounting standards for non-profit
Provides back-up support to the Senior Business operations partner as required
Support annual audit process and prepare schedules and provide auditors with financial reporting and documentation of fiscal transactions
Performing other duties as assigned
What we’re looking for :
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with equivalent job-related training and experience
Enrolled in accounting program (CMA or CGA) is an asset
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in non-profit accounting and financial analysis
Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Must have high level of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines
Ability to maintain good working relationships with vendors, funders, and co-workers
Ability to work independently and function as a team player
Current Vulnerable Sector Police check required completed within last 12 months is required
This position requires you to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and you must provide Lumacare with proof of vaccination prior to employment.
