Choice Properties Real Estate Investment Trust ( Choice Properties ) is Canada’s largest real estate investment trust ( REIT ).

Choice Properties is an owner, manager and developer of a high-quality portfolio comprising 756 properties totalling 68 million square feet of gross leasable area.

Position Summary

It’s an exciting time to join the Sustainability team at Choice Properties REIT! In 2019, we released our inaugural Sustainability & Responsibility Report, publicly declaring our commitment to improving our environmental and societal impacts.

This year we also launched Choice Cares, a national initiative to fundraise and volunteer for a variety of charities serving communities where our offices are located.

Over the coming years we will build on this momentum by establishing new programs with the support of our Development & Construction, Operations, and Finance teams in order to improve our policies and practices, engage more closely with tenants, and reduce our impact on the environment.

As a key member of the Sustainability team, the Sustainability Analyst will be responsible for managing data related to sustainability reporting and disclosure, including preparation of the annual Sustainability & Responsibility report, compliance with the Ontario Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking regulation, and disclosure to the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB).

The analyst will also assist with the rollout of Choice's BOMA BEST certification program across its retail, industrial and office portfolios.

The analyst will also act as a resource to our Development & Construction teams, and to our Operations Teams, both by keeping up-to-date with the latest technologies and sustainability trends, and by assisting those teams with implementing best practices in design and operation of real estate.

This is a highly visible role that will provide you with the foundations of a successful career in sustainable real estate.

You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of internal and industry experts across a variety of property types (retail, industrial, office and residential).

The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, should have the ability to prioritize tasks, and a strong work ethic.

Key Responsibilities include :

  • Assisting with the development of a comprehensive sustainability program that achieves Choice’s established sustainability targets while also rolling out new programs and establishing best practices across the company.
  • Managing building-level energy, water, waste and greenhouse gas data.
  • Supporting the preparation of annual disclosures, including our Sustainability Report and GRESB submissions.
  • Coordinating submissions for LEED, BOMA BEST, and other building certification programs
  • Responding to the annual Ontario Energy and Water Reporting & Benchmarking regulation
  • Establish employee sustainability committees and work with regional offices to improve in-office sustainable practices.
  • Act as a resource to the Operations and Development & Construction teams with ad-hoc analyses, research or coordination projects.
  • Job Qualifications :

  • 1 to 3 years of experience working in a corporate real estate and / or a sustainability management role
  • Degree in engineering, architecture, or sustainability management
  • Passionate about green building design and corporate social responsibility
  • LEED GA, LEED AP, WELL AP, and / or Fitwel Ambassador accreditation an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with colleagues from all different functions of the company (accounting, operations, development, human resources, etc).
  • Previous experience with creating spreadsheets, developing Excel reports and condensing complex data into succinct reports.
