  • Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Sciences, the Environmental Liabilities Project Manager (Manager) is responsible for managing the environmental liabilities program to ensure an inventory and liability of all sites in Nunavut are maintained;
  • policies for managing environmental liabilities in Nunavut are developed; that key project planning and decision documents, such as detailed environmental site assessments, risk assessments, remediation plans, cost estimates, schedules, logistics plans, project delivery strategy, and progress reports are technically sound and meet the requirements of the funding and approval authorities.

    The Manager also provides professional, technical and scientific support, consultation, information and advisory services on assigned environmental liabilities activities and remediation projects.

    The Manager is responsible for planning, organizing and managing complex, multi-disciplinary environmental liabilities assessment projects.

    The Manager prepares recommendations and advice on Government of Nunavut policies, legislation and regulatory interpretations and requirements to senior management.

    The Manager also oversees the maintenance of the program’s database of environmental liabilities as well as any reports, and scientific, technical and project knowledge accumulated in the course of the project.

    The Manager manages consultants and multidisciplinary project teams and contributes to working groups in the conduct of rigorous research to support the development of policies and the implementation of environmental liabilities programs and policies.

    The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized degree in environmental science or engneering, along with five (5) years of directly-related experience.

    Possession of a valid Nunavut Class 5 driver's license is required. Eligibility for membership in Nunavut / NWT Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists (NAPEG) would be an asset.

    The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French. Fluency in Inuktitut is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

    Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
