SLGI launched its first set of retail mutual funds in October 2010. Since then, SLGI has grown to over $24B in AUM with 110 strategies across retail and institutional markets.

SLGI’s Fund Adherence Program serves as a foundational pillar for oversight of the business.

Role Summary :

Reporting to the AVP of Product Development and Investment Risk, the Manager of Fund Adherence manages SLGI’s Fund Adherence Program.

  • The Manager is responsible for implementation, management and enhancement of the Program. It is expected that the Manager will integrate a transformational approach to existing processes;
  • with the aim of increasing overall efficiency and efficacy.

    Main Accountabilities :

  • Develop, enhance and execute SLGI’s Fund Adherence Program.Oversee all investment guidelines per the current monitoring controls set in place.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual portfolio trading activity reviews to identify instances of non-compliance with regulatory requirements and investment guidelines.

    These reviews are inclusive of constraints that cannot be monitored within the current system and must be monitored via manual processes.

    Communicate with internal and external Portfolio Managers on assessing alerts / breaches and prompting appropriate action to bring the effected mandate back into compliance.

    Assess materiality of breachesand propose a robust course of action.Audit SLGI’s Risk and Investment Analytics provider, correcting any applicable errors and adjusting processes as necessary.

  • Draft investment guidelines for new investment mandates.
  • Vet benchmark suitability and risk classifications for retail and institutional products.
  • Onboard and manage new / existing index subscriptions.
  • Create an environment in which his / her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his / her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-
  • to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to investment risk.

    Specialized Knowledge / Skills Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of NI 81-102 regulatory framework, compliance and investment systems for mutual fund companies
  • Experience in investment operations, specifically trade adherence / trade management for mutual fund companies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build and maintain strong, trustful relationships with all levels of the organization
  • Proven time management and organization skills
  • Ability to work autonomously with a bias for action and a confident demeanor
  • Strong attention to detail, while maintaining a view of larger business issues
  • Ability to manage multiple internal and external relationships
  • Ability & drive, to chase after results and lead change
  • Team player that is detail oriented, accountable and client focused
  • Problem solving skills, judgment and decision making skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Education and Experience :

  • 5-7 years’ experience in mutual funds with a compliance focus;
  • CFA designation is an asset;
  • Advance degree in Finance or relevant quantitative subjects;
  • Commitment to professional growth through continuing education, including maintaining a detailed knowledge of current regulatory / legislative initiatives / requirements;
  • The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.

    In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.

    Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
