  • Position Summary :

    The Lead Technician is primarily responsible for overseeing the Field Services Technicians to ensure they are operating on-

    site safely and effectively, and waste services are completed in a professional and timely manner. Additionally, the Lead Technician will also be an active contributing member of our Incident Response Team.

    Responsibilities : Safety

    Safety

  • Lead by example and drive all Tervita’s safety policy and procedures
  • Running onsite meetings and participating in monthly operations meetings
  • Complete and submit daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA) and Last-Minute Risk Assessment (LMRA), as required.
  • Abide by Tervita’s Occupational Health and Safety Program
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with the safety department Communicate all safety concerns with leader
  • Field Coordination

  • Ensure field staff has the required training and are fit to work
  • Coordinate and oversee field staff and ensure they understand their role and responsibilities
  • Work with Field Technicians to ensure they are selecting and utilizing the appropriate PPE for the task at hand
  • Ensure Field Technicians are completing the appropriate manifest / paperwork to support the waste pick up;
  • Evaluate customer need and communicate it back to the appropriate Sales Representatives or Project Coordinators; ensure all concerns and inconsistencies are identified and addressed
  • Site Inspection

  • Ensure pre-operational checks on equipment and supplies are being conducted as well as prescribed preventative maintenance
  • Perform site inspections to ensure safety standards and procedures are being upheld, as required
  • Various Other Tasks

  • Respond to, supervise and support all Incident Response work
  • Provide facility support and process work if required
  • Operate small equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, pumps etc.
  • Qualifications : Technical :

    Technical :

  • Technical Diploma or Degree in a Science or an Environmental related discipline or demonstrated competency
  • Minimum 5 years industry related work experience
  • Experience guiding and coordinating the work of others
  • Valid and current Class 5 Driver’s License with clean abstract
  • Must be willing and able to work through difficult weather conditions and challenging work site environments
  • Must be willing and able to work on flexible shifts, long hours, weekends and travel away from home as business demands
  • Technical and regulatory knowledge with respect to the waste services industry
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, shoveling, moving containers and other heavy materials
  • Good computer skills with ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Windows
  • Fit-for-Work each day which includes being clean shaven
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Additional industrial education and experience would be an asset, such as H2S Alive, First Aid Training, Fall Protection Awareness etc.
  • NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Technician, Construction Safety Officer or Confined Space Rescue training
  • Required to be on call and respond 24 hours a day as a member of the Incident Respond Team

  • Ability to communicate effectively and express thoughts and ideas in a clear and concise manner
  • Good time management skills and ability to work effectively under pressure and meet demanding deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively in an unsupervised environment
  • Good listening skills along with ability to accept and follow direction
  • Ability to multi-task, assess situations and prioritize tasks accordingly
