The Toronto office of Baker McKenzie seeks an associate to join the Advertising, Marketing & Regulatory practice within its International Commercial Practice Group, which comprises a multidisciplinary team of experienced legal professionals serving both domestic and international clients on a truly global platform.
The successful candidate will have at least 1 and up to 3 years of post-call experience gained from a top-level law firm and / or in-house or government environment.
Experience in advertising / marketing, packaging / labelling, product regulatory compliance involving food, health or other consumer products, consumer protection and / or related experience is required.
Exposure to inbound / outbound trade law (including customs, export controls and sanctions), competition law compliance and counselling, merger and foreign investment review and / or related areas of regulatory law handled by the Practice Group would be considered an asset.
Excellent drafting, research, analytical and communication skills, a high attention to detail, an aptitude to develop strong relationships and the ability to take initiative and work as part of a team are essential.
French language proficiency is preferred. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy both transactional and advisory work, take a deep interest in client industries, be passionate about client service and be committed to applying law and regulation to develop practical solutions to complex commercial problems.
