Position Overview :
Within Unifund Assurance, we are looking for a highly motivated individual to assume the role of Underwriter. The successful candidate will be a team oriented individual with a positive attitude, who will contribute to a profitable book of business by making sound underwriting decisions, and by actively working to improve processes and procedures.
As an Underwriter, you will review and examine Home & Auto transactions for acceptability and provide instructions to our Policy Servicing staff.
You will also maintain expert knowledge of the Personal Lines Insurance Industry as well as Unifund's Underwriting / Rating, and system Guidelines and Procedures.

What you will achieve in this role
Underwrite new business, renewals and endorsements by assessing the acceptability of the risk, and factors affecting the potential for loss.
Alberta and Atlantic Auto experience would be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Help facilitate successful integration of policies during acquisition.
Maintain service levels, achieve your performance targets, and have the ability to comprehensively discuss and plan with your leader for optimal performance.
Focus on sustainable profitable growth.
Contribute to continuous improvement of work processes and procedures.
Develop strong relationships to assist in the procurement and retention of quality business.
Coach and guide Policy Servicing staff on guidelines, risk appetite and underwriting philosophy.
Provide exceptional service and expertise to both internal and external customers.
What you bring to this role
Solid property and casualty underwriting knowledge, with a minimum of 3 years of property / casualty underwriting experience
National underwriting experience an asset
Good working knowledge of Personal Lines underwriting techniques, guidelines, forms and coverage
Post-secondary education and / or previous experience in the insurance industry
Completed or working towards completing CIP
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Superior customer service skills
Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task
Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills
Proven ability to make sound underwriting judgments
Good computer and keyboarding skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office software
Flexible working hours required between 7am and 7pm EST
