Purpose of Job

The Global Transaction Banking (GTB) Payments team is looking for an energetic and results driven Programmer Analyst Senior with experience in the financial industry.

The Payments team will deliver new products with new capabilities, and improve the overall payment process for GTB customers.

The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for delivering a larger set of initiatives that includes the modernization of legacy payment systems.

The successful applicant will work in the Programmer Analyst Senior role on an Agile team, developing solutions and supporting production, resulting in a positive impact to the team and Bank as a whole.

Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities within tight timeframes is required for this position.

To be successful, the individual must thrive on challenge, be proactive, eager to learn, be attentive to detail and be able to provide technical leadership and advise.

Working knowledge of Commercial Banking and / or payment systems / processes is also an asset.

Key Job Accountabilities

  • Responsible for application analysis, design, and development for GTB payment applications.
  • Responsible for organizing, leading and participating in reviews of technical specifications, programs, and unit test plans.
  • Writing well designed, testable, and efficient code by adhering to best practices of software development.
  • Conducting peer review of all deliverables.
  • Assist in the analysis of business requirements in order to establish the technical feasibility of proposed initiatives
  • Participate in component and data architecture design; performance monitoring, product evaluation and buy vs. build recommendations.
  • Responsible for the assessment and scoping of projects (from a development work effort perspective).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ensure a timely delivery of quality products / functions.
  • Responsible for performance analysis (from an application and environment perspective) and make recommendations to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively on an agile team comprised of both BNS staff and external consulting resources as required.
  • Deal effectively with external vendors, external business partners, and internal stake holders.
  • Must be able to work within tight deadlines and schedules which may result in external work hours to meet project deliverables
  • Effectively communicate with departmental application development team members, management, and with the wider IT&S Architecture Office.
  • Work closely with Solutions Architects to ensure design aligns with overall systems architecture.
  • Skills, Experience and Functional Competencies

    Experience Requirements

  • 5-7 years software development
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in the financial / payments industry
  • Description of Experience Requirement

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with relational databases, and performance tuning
  • 3+ years programming in Java and Spring Boot
  • 3+ years with MQ, IIB, and Message Broker
  • Experience using and designing web services, SOAP, REST APIs
  • Experience building and supporting production quality software
  • Experience owning projects from end to end
  • Educational Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or
  • College or equivalent work experience.
