A member of Stericycle’s dynamic Environment, Health and Safety team, this role is accountable for providing compliance support to our Medical Waste processing plant in Brampton, Ontario.

The role will complete all health and safety requirements while enforcing a culture of prevention and compliance. In addition, the responsibilities will consist of completing regulatory and injury reports and incident investigation.

Key Job Duties : Health and Safety

Health and Safety

  • Work under the guidance of the Health and Safety Manager
  • Implement Corporate Safety Policies and Programs and develop and maintain Site specific programs

    Monitor the implementation of both corporate and site specific policies and programs i.e. make sure they are being followed

    Monitor the site compliance with all applicable policies, programs, rules and regulations

    Promote safe work practices and the safety culture of their site

    Manage the WHSC and report to the H&S Manager

    Handle accidents, injuryand near misses incidents at their sites, investigate and report to H&S Manager

    Ensure corrective actions are put in place

    Have intimate knowledge of the work processes of their site (plant, transportation, administrative), understand the safety hazards involved and make sure they are all addressed

    Work very closely with the DM to make sure compliance is maintained by all

    Environmental / Regulatory

    Have a thorough knowledge of all the approvals and permits held by each of their facility

    Have a thorough knowledge of the applicable regulations of each of their facility

    Implement all policies and programs

    Develop compliance programs / checklists for their site

    Monitor their site compliance and develop corrective action plans

    Train all those in charge

    Support Director re permitting

  • Implement programs
  • Monitor HOS, Log books, VCR, Vehicle Maintenance Files
  • DQF program (checking of driver abstracts, valid licenses, road tests, Drug testing, etc..)
  • Use Specialist for Guidance
  • Requirements :

  • College or University degree in occupational health and safety or the equivalent work related experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

    Three to six years experience in Health and Safety and or quality control and assurance.

    Punctuality and reliability.

    Demonstrates ability to conduct investigations and investigate workplace injuries

    Demonstrates ability to conduct workplace safety audit.

    Must be able to organize work and provide support to many departments at once.

    Demonstrates knowledge of Hazardous Materials and OSHA Regulations.

    Demonstrates the ability to operate a powered industrial truck, e.g., forklift.

    Working experience with inspectors, auditors, customers and other government officials
