This position will be responsible for the oversight of various financial accounting and financial reporting requirements, as well as reviewing current processes within the Finance team to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiencies and implementing those improvements through innovative solutions.
Prepare, review and provide oversight of various financial accounting transactions and activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations, and ensure the transactions and processes are functioning appropriately in accordance with SOX requirements and generally accepted accounting principles.
Manage accounting staff involved in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports. Develop annual performance plans and reviews periodically with staff.
Identify and implement staff training and development opportunities.
Participate in selecting, orientating and training new employees. Provide coaching to support performance, quality of work, and ongoing training and development of staff;
manage attendance, identify performance issues and collaborate with others regarding disciplinary matters.
Prepare or review various internal and external financial reports, and quarterly working papers and notes for the financial statements and MD&A.
Seek out and identify innovative opportunities for Finance process improvements and efficiencies, and work with various stakeholders to implement solutions.
Provide accounting guidance and solutions to various stakeholders within the organization.
Provide supporting financial or accounting policy analysis, when required, for BC Utilities Commission applications and for external financial reporting purposes.
Maintain chart of accounts in SAP system and related documentation.
Assists in various finance projects and initiatives as required.
Degree in Business / Commerce with recognized Accounting designation and a minimum of four (4) years relevant experience in financial accounting / reporting.
Strong technical skills working within a large Enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, preferably in an SAP environment
Advanced technological skills to enable a variety of financial analyses and reporting, in particular MS Excel, and ability to learn new technologies, including robotics process automation (RPA), PowerBI and data analytics
Demonstrated ability of performing or reviewing internal controls over financial reporting and contributing to an overall strong control environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in order to understand problems and / or opportunities and develop and implement creative and pragmatic solutions
Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to independently plan, prioritize and coordinate a diverse set of activities to consistently meet targets in an environment that includes changing priorities, and time demands
Excellent verbal and written communication / presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to work with people at all levels within and outside the organization.
Demonstrated ability to Partner for Progress by collaborating with people with financial and non-financial backgrounds at all levels within and outside the organization.
