The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications :

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in a leadership role in the highway maintenance or civil infrastructure industry
  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Business Administration is an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to manage a medium sized multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to read and interpret cost data and reports.
  • Able to plan and implement budgets and reach targets.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, operations safety, and the ability to provide strategic innovative solutions
  • Mentoring and coaching capabilities
  • Ability to create and maintain effective business relationships with clients, subcontractors, managers, crew, etc.
  • Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Job duties include, but are not limited to the following :

  • Chairs monthly meetings with Alberta Transportation personnel to assure they are apprised of our work progress and to be advised of any concerns they may have;
  • Holds weekly scheduling meetings with Foremen to ensure works are completed on time and meet Specification requirements;
  • Provides advice to Foremen within the organization of current issues and solutions;
  • Monitors routine budgets for government and outside contracts and or Projects;
  • Reviews and approves annual equipment purchases, within operating budget, as defined in Mainroad’s Corporate Purchasing Policy and Procedure;
  • Promotes, seeks and encourages contract work outside the scope of the government contracts;
  • Meets periodically with Alberta Transportation to discuss and resolve issues pertaining to our contract requirements;
  • Maintains an ongoing manpower monitoring program that will allow manpower adjustments as required;
  • Reviews, negotiates, renews and terminates subcontract agreements as necessary to meet the job requirements; and,
  • Provides the planning and organizing of the work of all personnel in a direct reporting relationship to ensure maximum productivity and morale.
