Basic Purpose :
Responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring and maintaining Quality Control and Process Control procedures designed to ensure continous production of products consistent with established standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors, ensuring that the programs are maintained throughout the company.
Ensure all suppliers conform to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and prudent Food Safety Programs and to confirm that established specifications are met as stipulated by both the supplier and the company.
Responsible for product quality from the time green beans are received on the receiving dock until the consumer uses the product.
The Quality Manager has the authority to inititate action in regards to quality and food safety. In the absence of the Quality Manager, the Quality Supervisor will support the SQF Code Food Safety & Quality system.
Senior Management is committed to supporting the SQF Code Food safety & Quality system through providing the necessary resources and training to achieve the foods safety, quality and ethical sourcing objectives of the SQF code.
Essential Responsibilities / Specific Duties :
The QA Manager assumes responsibility of the SQF Practioner and is responsible for the validation, verification and maintenance of the SQF food safety & quality system.
Establish and supervise inspection, sampling and inspection programs for raw materials. goods in process and finished product.
Develop methods to check quality of new products and improve the quality of existing products.
Investigate and research substandard test results and product defects.
Recommend changes in materials or processes to root cause correct detected non conformances issues in raw materials and finished product.
Develop innovative programs to focus employees on improving product quality.
Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of the finished product.
Formulates and maintains quality control objectives complementary to company policies and goals.
Creates and implements inspection criteria and procedures.
Interprets and communicates quality control philosophy to key personnel in organization.
Coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other plant managers to maximize product reliability and minimize cost.
Provides inspection activity for product throughout production cycle.
Applies total quality management tools and approaches to analytical and reporting processes with each department.
Direct and trains workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities and product.
Works with vendors to insure quality of all purchased parts for company use.
Plays an active role on quality management teams within an organization.
Designs and implements quality control training programs to key personnel in conjunction with manager.
Leads investigations and adjusts customer complaints.
Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
Performs analyses of competitor products, recommending best match.
Responsible for conducting / coordinating various coffee-related trials and projects.
Food Safety :
Provide leadership in managing food safety initiatives that achieve the organization's food safety agenda and meet regulatory and customer requirements.
Contribute to the compliance and effectiveness of GFSI system requirements, HACCP, GMP programs, company policies and procedures and government regulations that contribute to Food Safety.
Oversee the implementation of corrective actions, special projects and studies to achieve food safety objectives.
Strive for continuous improvement in Food Safety.
Knowledge & Key Competencies :
5 to 7 years experience in a food or beverage manufacturing enviornment in addition to a BS in a Food Science or Industrial Engineering discipline.
Must have completed a HACCP course and be experienced & competent to maintain a HACCP based food safety system.
Must have an understanding of the SQF 2000 code and the requirements to implement and maintain the SQF 2000.
Have a working knowledge of SPC (Statistical Process Control) applications and implementation.
Some mechanical aptitude and understanding of the coffee making process equipment.
Complete understanding of the laboratory analytical equipment function and operation.
Some microbiological experience would be considered an advantage.
Demonstrated safe work habits and good work ethics.
