Role Summary

Works with limited supervision to lead a team of Test Technologists and Test Technicians on an array of testing projects.

Responsible to ensure timing and quality objectives are met and maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively assess the project conditions (test goals, equipment effectiveness, project urgency) to identify and mitigate risk to test timing, quality and overall customer satisfaction;
  • highlight and resolve any quality issues

  • Ensure the availability of required resources and monitor the status of on-going tests to ensure test programs are completed on time, according to specification and that personnel are following the appropriate procedures and work is performed efficiently
  • Supervise Test Lab Personnel to manage the workflow through the testing department and ensure that sufficient and appropriate resources are available to meet customer demands
  • Provide guidance, support, and direction in the development of team through coaching and formal performance reviews and translate customer requirements to Test Technologists and Test Technicians
  • Ensure the comprehensiveness and accuracy of test set-ups for conformance to the specification, and once complete, review set-ups with the customer
  • Review training requirements / matrices and initiate training as required to ensure that employees are cross-trained and training is complete
  • Update functions : i.e. Time and attendance sheets, vacation approval, reviews etc.
  • Conduct team meetings and post meeting minutes on the Communication Board
  • Communicate progress, incidents and results of projects promptly to Test Lab Manager
  • Audit tests in process to ensure data accuracy and traceability is maintained
  • Ensure test incident analysis (ie. set-up, equipment verification) is performed prior to approving TIR’s
  • Review outgoing data to ensure it is logical and adheres to all ISO17025 standards
  • Provide technical support with test set-up and fixtures as per customer specifications and collect, document and maintain test results / observations to ISO 17025 requirements
  • Understand and interpret customer test specifications, ISO standards and supplied testing flows
  • Quote New Testing Job per CTL Standards
  • Propose and develop new methods to aid test efficiency and satisfy complex, non-routine customer requirements
  • Keep customers up to date on the progress of test by participating in conference calls or test status meetings
  • Define goals for team (including quality reviews, housekeeping, 5S, health and safety) and measure performance on a regular basis by tracking performance measurable and providing ongoing verbal performance feedback and the annual performance review
  • Ensure adequate progression of assigned tests 24 hours / day, 7 days / week through organizing and planning
  • Perform daily review of project timing with Technologist
  • Assess labour requirements and assign Jobs to Test Technologists
  • Review new fixtures for conformance to the test methods and highlight discrepancies to the Test Lab Manager
  • Create datasheets (TAD’s) and job binders by interpreting test specifications and update as required
  • Work in compliance with all Quality standards as outlined in the CTL Quality
  • Ensure that all employees are trained on department hazards and safe operation of equipment and ensure all company safety policies are adhered to and safe work habits are utilized by all department personnel and visitors
  • Key Qualifications / Requirements

  • Minimum completion of a Community College Diploma from a technical program, Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a technical role showing strong leadership and communication skills, co-op placements will be considered
  • Proficient use of personal computer
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Good mechanical ability
  • Proficient use of common automotive hand tools
  • Strong reading, writing and communication skills
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a fair and consistent coaching style
