Job Description

The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include instructional and professional duties, professional development and service, and continuing excellence in one’s field.

Education and Experience

1. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. 2. A valid BC Teacher’s Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment, equivalent or a Provincial Instructor Diploma is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

3. Two years’ related teaching experience, preferably in an adult setting 4. Two years’ experience working with people with special needs

Skills and Abilities Candidates must be committed to a team approach, demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills.

The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy. Successful applicants will be an integral part of the team that will help Okanagan College realize the promise of a world-class college.

Candidates will be comfortable in a computerized environment and demonstrate knowledge of programs relevant to their discipline.

The successful applicant will be able to encourage communication between students and faculty.

    Job Specific Competencies Strong Administration Skills are required as well as experience in scheduling and curriculum development.

    Instructors must also be able to demonstrate knowledge of and ability to teach on a variety of remote platforms.

    Preferred Qualifications

    The Department of Adult Special Education is seeking a Regular Full-time instructor for the Kelowna Campus. A Bachelor of Education is preferred, with at least 2 years experience teaching Adults with Special Needs.

    An understanding of remote (online) teaching is desired.
