One of our mills, Mackenzie Pulp Mill Corporation, is seeking a Shift Engineer to join the team. With close to 275 employees on a continuous operating schedule, the mill produces 235,000 tonnes ADMT (air dry metric tonnes) of bleached Kraft pulp annually.

Mackenzie is a community of nearly 4,000 and lies at the southern end of Williston Lake in the Rocky Mountain Trench, 190 km north of Prince George, BC.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Shift Engineer is accountable for the safe, efficient operation of the Power and Recovery Department on a shift basis according to Company standards, and adhering to the relevant regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the continuous operation of the recovery boiler, power boiler, effluent treatment system, black liquor evaporation system and associated auxiliaries.
  • Supervises hourly staff to ensure safe, compliant, efficient operating of all equipment. Directs the Power and Recovery operators so they carry out their duties safely and efficiently.
  • Ensures that all supervised employees are properly trained, safety-conscious, work safely and understand the significance of their work in the manufacturing process.
  • Observes and checks all equipment, anticipates maintenance needs and initiates the required procedures.
  • Co-ordinates required maintenance in the department with production needs.
  • Maintains records of daily operations, communicates pertinent information and observations relative to the safe and efficient operation of the plant verbally and in writing to leadership and other departments.
  • Implements Company and environmental policies where necessary.
  • Assist in the administration of the operating budget.
  • Qualifications :

  • High School (Grade 12) graduation, combined with a completed Second Class BC Power Engineers Certificate.
  • Five to ten years’ experience with High Pressure Boilers and related equipment.
  • Experience with Black Liquor Recovery Boilers is an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A good working knowledge of relevant government agencies, rules and regulations.
