Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lab Technologist in St Claire, Ontario .

Job Summary :

The responsibility of the senior lab technician is to ensure the safe and compliant operation of the laboratory onsite. The senior lab technician will be the onsite expert of analytical methods along with laboratory equipment operations.

Additional responsibilities of the senior lab technician will include developing procedures for test methods, calibration and maintenance of equipment and backfilling laboratory technicians vacation.

The senior lab technician works a 12 hour rotating schedule that requires flexibility and self-discipline to complete the required daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Follows and ensures compliance with safety procedures
  • Provide vacation relief for the on shift lab technician
  • Schedules and performs calibrations and maintenance on analytical systems.
  • Performs in-depth troubleshooting of analytical systems.
  • Monitors analytical systems, evaluates validity of data, applies statistics, interprets results and takes appropriate action
  • Performs first line troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and IT systems
  • Monitors and maintains calibration standards and consumable items
  • Manages raw material and retain samples
  • Provides technical support for plant and customer issues
  • Implements and verifies the performance of new equipment
  • Owns and maintains the sites laboratory procedures
  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications :

  • 5 or more years of industrial laboratory experience.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.
  • Strong mathematical (statistics) and computer skills.
  • Have the ability to draft professional reports and procedures.
  • Have the capacity to self manage many tasks along with the ability to teach and mentor.
  • Adherence to all sites, corporate and regulatory standards
  • Have a positive attitude as a self motivated leader with a team orientated approach.
  • Be proficient in computers to perform job tasks.
  • Have strong Interpersonal, Facilitative, and Organizational skills.
  • Effectively interacts with multiple functions and diverse individuals to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrates excellent decision making skills and the ability to prioritize appropriately.
  • Effectively manages multiple competing priorities.
  • Has strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to communicate with a very diverse population which is spread across the site.
  • Strong reading comprehension and listening skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence.
  • Able to work with independently with minimal supervision with in an empowered team environment.

  • A minimum requirement for this Canada based position is the ability to work legally in the Canada. No visa sponsorship / support is available for this position.
  • Physical Requirements :

    Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations :

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
  • Stand 50% of the time.
  • Walk for extended periods of time
  • Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator.
  • Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.
  • Work in an area with hazardous materials
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • A diploma in Chemical Laboratory Technician or Chemical Laboratory Analysis.
  • Have an excellent knowledge of M / S Office Suite and SAP.
  • Knowledge of inferred scan technology, GC, and physical property testing.
  • Education :

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
