The Laboratory Technician is responsible for the day-to-day analysis of samples arriving into the laboratory. This role is responsible for ensuring samples meet specification & are correctly allocated to the proper tank or disposal outlet.
This role may also have additional responsibilities in the Receiving department. This would include greeting drivers and completing applicable paperwork.
Provide chemical and physical QA / QC analysis in support of the Imperial St facility operations.
Complete sample preparation, quality assurance and quality control of material
Perform analytical tests on material, using both wet chemical and instrumentation methods for detailed trace level analysis, and basic fingerprint receiving criteria.
Responsible for data entry and laboratory record management
Report concerns about samples, analytical results and equipment problems to the Management Team.
Work independently, complete daily tasks accurately and efficiently.
Assist with other duties as assigned by the lead hand or management.
Verify drivers’ paperwork; obtains information regarding material entering the facility to properly bill the customer and track the total amount and type of waste entering the facility.
Identifies and reports problems; gathers needed information to develop solutions,
Documents customer and / or supplier problems to management and responds promptly to customer needs,
Support the facility’s Housekeeping program
Experience, Qualifications & Education
Enrolled in a Chemical Engineering Laboratory Technician / Technology or Environmental Technician or Chemistry / Environmental Studies courses
Sound ability to assess risks related to mixing chemical products.
Proven communication (written / verbal) and mathematical skills.
Analytical thinker who can multi-task and is extremely organized,
Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong team player with the ability to work independently and give direction.
This position is primarily performed in a laboratory / office setting that is not a pristine environment. You must be able to stand for long periods of time.
You must be able to work independently and as part of a larger team environment. You must be able to communicate in English both verbally and electronically.
Shift hours are 8am-4 : 00pm Monday to Friday. You may be required to work additional hours and / or outside of regular hours to meet customer requirements or cover vacation periods.
