Physiotherapy / Occupational Therapy Assistant Red Deer - McKenzie

Our CBI Health Centre is looking for a full-time PT / OT Assistant to complement our talented interdisciplinary team at our Red Deer - McKenzie location.

This function is responsible for assisting the registered physiotherapist / occupational therapist in the provision of appropriate physiotherapy / occupational therapy treatment.

The physiotherapy / occupational therapy assistant will be directed in his / her duties by the physiotherapist / occupational therapist and will provide such services as his / her training and expertise permit.

All services will be delivered in accordance with the guidelines and clinical quality standards established by CBI Health.


Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities :

  • Greets clients and shows them to a treatment room
  • Acts as a liaison between the client and physiotherapist
  • Performs specific modality treatment techniques as directed by the physiotherapist :
  • Ultrasound , TENS , EMS , Wax application , Hot packs , Ice , IFC
  • Checks on clients during treatment to determine level of comfort
  • Communicates immediately with the physiotherapist if a problem arises regarding the client’s comfort or tolerance to the treatment technique being delivered by the PTA
  • Cleans and tidies room between clients, changes pillow cases and wipes down beds
  • Pulls daily client charts in preparation for physiotherapists
  • Completes appropriate information on CBI forms as directed by the physiotherapist
  • Performs laundry duties to ensure facility has a supply of clean towels, pillowcases, gowns etc.
  • Participates in the provision of the CBI client education programs as required
  • Performs front desk / reception and other administrative duties as requested by Facility Manager
  • Keeps up to date with all the emergency plans and evacuation procedures for his / her facility location and participates in regular practice drills;
  • Upgrades his / her clinical knowledge and skills through participation in continuing education.
  • Knowledge Skills and Attributes Requirements :

  • Diploma in Physiotherapy Assistant Program from a recognized educational facility or on the job training
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate well internally and externally;
  • Demonstrates a caring attitude towards patients
  • Willing to follow direction from the physiotherapist
  • Strong time management and problem solving skills.
