We are looking for Legal Counsel ( Employment & Labour) in Calgary or Vancouver, who works closely with HR / Labor Relations leadership and other members of region management team regarding labor and employment law matters.

This position will provides day-to-day advisory services to field operations management with respect to labor relations, employment law and HR related issues.

The Legal Counsel will represent the Company before Federal and Provincial agencies, at arbitration and mediation, and in collective bargaining.

Responsibilities :

  • Serves as chief negotiator in collective bargaining with a variety of unions for a variety of FGA operations.
  • Represents Company at arbitrations, mediations, and human rights hearings.
  • Represents the Company at labour board matters on representation issues.
  • Provides operations management with day-to-day advice and guidance regarding all human resources issues, laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages employment claims and litigation, and develops strategies for defense.
  • Assists operations management in the analysis, strategy development and communication of new labour laws passed at the national or provincial level that affect our employees.
  • Maintains timely and accurate corporate reporting mechanisms for matters of responsibility.

  • Required Knowledge & Skills :

  • 2-4 years of legal experience; Labour and Employment Law preferred.
  • Called to the Bar of British Columbia or Alberta.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently but also perform as a strong team player.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and organizational skill
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse and international company.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Proficient understanding of business sensitivities and confidentiality
  • Tactful and versatility to manage multiple matters simultaneously
  • Travel up to 50%
