The Director, Accounting Policy & Procedure Implementation Leads and oversees APPI Financial Instruments globally (excluding Canadian Banking) and accounting-

related issues for GBM units (excluding US entities, non-trading loans / guarantees, and non-FI revenue recognition) ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of existing and proposed accounting, financial reporting & disclosure requirements relevant to the Bank, with a focus on financial instruments.
  • This will require staying abreast of proposed changes to IFRS accounting standards, as well as new financial reporting & disclosure required by regulatory bodies (e.

    g., OSFI, Financial Stability Board).

  • Leads / supervises the implementation of the Bank’s accounting policies & procedures related to financial instruments.
  • This will involve the design and implementation of new financial reporting processes and controls in order to operationalize and ensure compliance with accounting policies, as well as the accuracy & completeness of financial disclosure requirements.

    Adequate supervision of staff is required to ensure implementation is successful, including the review of accounting entries and communication with stakeholders.

    It will also involve advising executives of proposed changes and the impact on the all-Bank results.

  • Provides advice and guidance to the Front and Back Office on appropriate operational accounting and financial reporting implications as it relates to specific complex business transactions and new business initiatives related to financial instruments, which could impact income recognition, balance sheet classification, valuation and disclosure requirements.
  • Reviews ongoing financial accounting & reporting of financial instruments to assess accuracy and integrity, particularly as it relates to complex and non-
  • routine transactions. This will involve reviewing accounting for specific non-routine transactions, products and processes, to ensure financial reporting is in accordance with appropriate policies.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML / ATF / sanctions and conduct risk.

  • communicating vison / values / business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

    Education and Experience Required

  • Must be an accredited accounting professional, preferably a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant
  • A minimum 5-year experience in the financial services industry and exposure to complex accounting issues
  • Thorough, in-depth knowledge in IFRS, specifically related to financial instruments and FX
  • Knowledgeable of EGL, SmartView, and OBI
