Tire Retread Technician

The Tire Retread Technician is responsible for performing the tire repair / retread function to meet the Kal Tire Aims for service excellence.
Work safely with tire service team.
Follow safe working procedures at all times.
Attain weekly safety meetings in the workshop. Raise and address issues.
Compile a detailed report for any safety incidents.
Ensure workshop and site conditions permit OTR to work safely.
Stop work and notify supervisor if work conditions are not safe.
Perform initial inspection of tires by identifying previous repairs, marking injuries, indicating type of repair required, identifying rejects and staging the tires for production.
Perform final inspection of tires by assessing flow, cure and repairs, removing staples, buffing rough edges, painting, tagging and preparing tires for shipping.
Perform buffing and skiving function through operation of the buffing machine, power hand tools and cement spraying equipment.
Perform section repair by following tag instructions and changing if necessary, buffing injury areas and inserting repairs or rubber.
Perform tire building by properly selecting and installing treads through the operation of a building machine and power hand tools.
Perform rimming and curing function by enveloping tires, installing rims or locks and operating chambers according to established Bandag specifications.
At Kal Tire’s OTR Bandlug plants, performs curing function by preparing tires and operating chambers according to established Kal Tire specifications.

Contribute to an upbeat atmosphere in the workplace by being supportive of, and regularly providing assistance for other team members.
1 3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing facility or related, preferably fitting tires or related mechanical service work.

Repair and re-grooving skills correct and safe use of repair and re-grooving tooling and equipment. Understand tire sizes and applications.
Understand tire failure causes and analysis.
Understand LV Tire maintenance options (applications, psi, rotations, matching, removal, rims, etc).
Understand Tire maintenance plans carried out safely to OTR standards for optimum performance and casing generation.
High School Diploma and some post-secondary education in mechanics would be an asset.
