Position Summary

We are hiring a part-time Security Guard to join the Security team for the Homewood Health Centre in Guelph and are looking for you.

Hours of work : Part-Time

What you'll be doing

  • Enforces Homewood’s smoke-free policy.
  • Enforces all parking policies, procedures and by-laws through routine parking patrols; reference parking records where required;
  • contact city by-law enforcement regarding ticketing and towing and document all data and action into the Parking Patrol log book.

  • Respond to all emergencies in person, taking a leadership role under all Emergency Codes. Works with Switchboard to determine the status of any such emergencies and whether or not local emergency services may be required.
  • Monitors all mechanical / electrical control centres and responds to all maintenance problems in off-hours for assessment.
  • Records operational status on log sheets.

  • Works with Switchboard to determine the status of any such problems and whether on-call maintenance is required as per policy.
  • When required, troubleshoots and services minor mechanical and electrical problems and reports them to the Environmental Services desk.
  • Reports all required repairs and maintenance to Environmental Services Supervisor.
  • Practices fire safety through regular daily and monthly fire inspection in accordance with all Provincial and Municipal fire codes and hospital Occupational Health and Safety requirements and conducting monthly fire drills.
  • When required, follows procedure to assist with removal and resetting of fire alarm panels and detection systems stations.
  • Work shall be pre-authorized using a fire alarm authorization book.

  • Completes required tours and recording of all incidents as outlined under the guidelines of the Manual for Security Operations Policy #4-A-10.
  • Maintains a clean, safe working area and ensure all safety precautions are taken in the performance of duties; clean office and car (daily and weekly).
  • Ensures accurate documentation with all duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • What we're looking for

  • Law and Security or equivalent program.
  • Security Guard License from private security and investigative branch.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification; recertification to be completed annually
  • Relevant 6 months experience with security, police, fire or other security service.
  • Experience within a hospital setting is preferred.
  • Bondable.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License Class G.
  • Current copy of a Ministry of Transportation Search Record must be provided.
  • Clean criminal records check in Ontario (or jurisdictions of residence previous 10 years); this is a condition of continued employment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (keyboarding, email, word).
  • Knowledge of WHIMIS.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of fitness with respect to the physical nature of certain duties and expectations inherent in the position.

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Evidence of good work and attendance record.
