The Social Media and Communications Planning Specialist will lead and support communications initiatives in the Office of the President and will provide assistance with planning, research and writing to the Director, Communications, for both online and print media, as well as developing briefing and promotional materials to advance the communications objectives of the Office of the President.
The incumbent will also lead aspects of the strategic communications plan, including the social media strategy and the maintenance of the President's website.
The CS will play an important role in scheduling and overseeing the work of students hired to support the communications team.
This role requires the incumbent to work closely with senior leadership of the University and manage significant reputational risk.
Bachelor's degree. Preference for graduates with a degree in English, Journalism, Communications or Marketing.
At least five years in the Communications field with an emphasis on social media, research, communications planning, and writing.
Demonstrated experience in using digital and social media tools and developing social media strategies. Strong planning, organization, and project management skills, including the ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines without sacrificing an eye for detail.
Self-starter with excellent editing, writing, research and messaging skills. Experience in monitoring and analyzing metrics and coverage to assess the effectiveness of communications efforts.
Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality. Strong team player : able to work collaboratively, take responsibility, and understand his / her role in building positive public perception of the organization.
Sound strategic judgement and ability to create strategic and responsive plans. Ability to supervise, provide direction and promote professional development of junior staff.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and ambiguous situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and be respectful of sensitive information.
Ability to interpret, implement and adhere to organizational policies and procedures. Knowledge of AODA and privacy legislation and other legislative requirements.
Advanced with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, social media applications (Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Flickr) and Word Press.
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and video editing software (Premiere Pro, iMovie).
Additional Notes :
High percentage of time spent proofing / reviewing / editing text for grammatical accuracy and readability. Works in an open cubicle environment.
Vacation will be restricted during Fall and Spring Convocation.

York implemented a revised CPM Compensation Framework in 2019. The Framework is a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
