Job Description

The Supervisor, QC Microbiology Lab oversees all activities and team members within the Microbiology area. They are responsible to ensure that all Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) are being met, that processes are documented accurately, and to lead investigations into microbial deviations.

The Supervisor will drive projects to timely completion in order to reduce dependencies on outside labs while promoting company Core Values including Continuous Improvement’, Innovation and Imagination’, Integrity in Leadership’.

You will take into consideration the company’s commitment to our seven Core Values such as Sustainability (people, the planet, and profit) in the planning and implementation of all actions related to your area of responsibility.

  • Preparation of samples and analysis according to United States Pharmacopeia (USP) or House Microbiological methods
  • Conduct a variety of testing including environmental monitoring, raw material, finished product and stability samples
  • Lead microbial projects and keep Manager apprised of status
  • Maintain and troubleshoot instruments and equipment
  • Calibrate and qualify lab instruments
  • Validate methods and support validation projects as required
  • Write and revise Quality Control Lab methods and SOPs as required
  • Assist with lab investigations and out-of-specification results
  • Order lab supplies
  • Communicate daily testing priorities to lab staff
  • Complete performance management, scheduling, payroll, and accident investigations as required
  • Follow and adhere to all given instructions including work procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
  • Strictly adhere to and observe all safety policies as outlined in the company policies and training sessions

  • Technical

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology or related science
  • 3 years’ supervisory experience in a natural health product or pharmaceutical microbiology GMP testing lab
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of USP microbiology testing procedures and method validation
  • Excellent computer skills including both Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Current with rapid microbiology technology desired
  • Lean Six Sigma training and knowledge is an asset
