Our client, a well established, Christian faith-based Association , that runs a variety of services for people with disabilities is looking for Support Workers to join their team in a variety of locations, Including Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Kelowna, Ladner, Langley, Maple Ridge, Penticton, Richmond, Surrey.

These positions will start on a casual, on-call part-time and full-time basis and can lead to long term part time and / or full time permanent employment.

These roles will pay between $18.30-19.53 / hr to start and training will be provided. Once you become a permanent employee, you will be eligible for benefits, including 3 weeks vacation.

As a Support Worker, you will support people with intellectual disabilities in a variety of sites. . You may be assigned to a residential home or to a non-residential site where Community Inclusion is the focus.

The position of Support Worker requires a high degree of commitment and love to the people they support and to the philosophies and principles of this organization.

The following is a list of job duties and responsibilities. The job is diverse and may vary depending on the site and the shift you are working.

  • Attend to the physical, recreational, leisure, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of each person
  • Help each person grow in personal care skills and assist with personal care when needed
  • Assist each person to use their language and communication abilities
  • Help people develop interpersonal skills, engage with family and friends, and participate in their community
  • Arrange for celebrations on birthdays and days of special importance to each person
  • Be attentive to the level of stress in the life of each person and assist in providing help to moderate the stress
  • Attend to daily health needs, reporting changes in status to the supervisor
  • Accompany people to medical or other specialist appointments and assist with dispensing of medications
  • Support each person in their faith practice and system of beliefs
  • Assist in maintaining files and collecting data
  • Document the care of the people being supported
  • Complete vehicle, maintenance and safety documentation
  • If providing residential supports, support household upkeep, cleaning duties, meal preparation and other household responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will have the following personal attributes and abilities :

  • A heart to serve people with diverse abilities and their families
  • Be available to work a variety of shifts as needed. Hours of work may vary.
  • Possession of Canadian, landed immigrant or legal working status
  • Ability to perform transfers and repositioning
  • A philosophy of care in line with our client’s values and support for people with intellectual disabilities
  • Standard requirements for Residential Support Workers employed in BC (Criminal Record Check, Medical Clearance, Class 5 Driver’s Licence with the ability to get the Class 4 License within the first 3 months of employment) , Tuberculosis Screening, ICBC Driving Record, Immunization Records)
