Position Description

Domtar Inc., Specialty Papers Division, Espanola Operations is currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join our team.

As an integrated mill, Espanola operates two pulp machines for making specialty hardwood and softwood pulps, and two paper machines that produce more than 300 different types of paper.

Role :

We are seeking an engaged individual who is looking for an opportunity to build, contribute and advance our organization.

Purpose :

Performs engineering for Maintenance and Capital Projects for the Espanola Mill.

Responsibilities :

Carry out a Maintenance Engineering Program and administers a Preventive Maintenance Program in assigned areas.

Plan, execute and coordinate all engineering projects as assigned.

Assist in investigating, evaluating, and recommending repairs or modifications to existing equipment and / or the purchase of new equipment.

Ensure solutions are based on sound engineering practices and most economical design.

Ensure designs are in accordance with all applicable codes and Company Standards and meets the requirements for environmental protection and employee health and safety.

Prepares and / or submits :

drawings, specifications, equipment selections and scope of work

engineering reports and studies

project schedules and progress reports

budgets, detailed cost estimates for projects and cost control reports

specifications for equipment and material

requests for funding of Capital and Major Maintenance Projects.

Provide technical assistance and / or resolve technical issues as required to the Maintenance Team and Operating Departments.

Obtains quotations, evaluates, and enters requisitions for equipment and material.

Prepares bid packages, including scope of work and specifications, for work to be contracted out.

Evaluates tenders, prepares comparisons, conducts pre-award meetings and awards contract.

Coordinates inspections and testing in the assigned areas.

Basic Qualifications :

Must have an Engineering Degree and be a member of the A.P.E.O.

Must have a thorough knowledge of civil, mechanical or electrical engineering and of the pulp and paper processes.

Must be aware of and have a working knowledge of Government Codes and Company Standards.

5+ years of experience in an engineering role in an industrial environment.

Knowledge and operational understanding of Pulp and Paper manufacturing processes, equipment and general business environment would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of SAP procurement would be preferred.
  • Knowledge Skills Abilities :

    Advanced experience, knowledge and understanding of safe work practices.

    Experience innovating and implementing changes and improvements.

    Ability to prioritize, make sound decisions, and resolve issues efficiently and effectively.

    A proven high level of troubleshooting skills - analytical, critical thinking and problem solving.

    Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various departments and individuals (internal and external).

    Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to multi-task.

    Ability to work independently and as a team.

    Results focused and detail-oriented.

  • Excellent computer skills - working knowledge CMMS systems and SAP would be an asset.
