Purpose of the Job

Scotia iTRADE is looking for an innovative, client-focused, results-oriented and highly motivated Senior Manager to join the Product Strategy & Development team.

The incumbent is responsible for conceptualizing, developing and implementing innovative business strategies and initiatives that align with the strategic goals of the business.

These initiatives include new opportunities or enhancements to platforms, pricing, programs, and client education in order to deliver against key business metrics.

The Senior Manager, Product Strategy will have the ability to create products and services that deliver high performance, market differentiation and ensure that revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met.


  • Define / plan product roadmap in support of the business strategy by :
  • Thoroughly analyzing and understanding the competition for each product and creating product development paths that will continually re-define the market standard.
  • Prioritizing new products and enhancements based on market analysis and product development cost / revenue projections.
  • Developing product strategies designed to target affluent investors and building out product road-map(s) in support of assigned area of responsibility.
  • Continually acquiring and enhancing knowledge of the online brokerage business strategies, risk management practices and methodologies, product offerings, back-office processes and rapidly changing technology.
  • Execute the development and implementation of new products as well as enhancements to existing products by :
  • Overseeing the translation of market competitive analysis into business requirement documents, business case proposals and functional specifications.
  • Managing the specifications review process with product owners, product managers, business analysts, requirements writers and developers
  • Managing the product development process using a strong project management methodology (detailed project timelines and resource allocations, budgets, ongoing product development meetings)
  • Determining product milestones and actively measuring progress against milestones to ensure timely and successful completion
  • Developing conversion and implementation strategies
  • Developing product pricing models that position the business for increased revenue growth
  • Supporting Marketing in developing product positioning strategies
  • 3. Team leadership to motivate and develop individual and team performance by :

  • Fostering and developing a strong, positive team environment, driving employee empowerment, innovation and a high degree of engagement.
  • Driving the internal communications process by ensuring all employees are aware of key projects, corporate goals and ongoing critical changes affecting clients.
  • Exhibiting an ability to listen, negotiate and communicate goals.
  • Ensuring the performance management process is in place and employee development is a priority for all employees on the team.
  • Sharing knowledge, experience and responsibility with employees in a drive for the highest standards of professionalism, sales and service excellence.
  • Regularly scheduling one-on-one coaching with direct reports.
  • Education / Work Experience / Designations

  • Under-graduate degree in business, economics or related discipline
  • MBA or CFA an asset
  • Industry designations an asset
  • Minimum 5-10 years of product management experience, preferably having worked in a retail online brokerage
  • Advanced understanding of brokerage user interfaces and UX design
  • Advanced knowledge of web-based platforms, web and mobile operating systems, internet technologies and usability
  • Proven leader experienced in managing a team of Product Managers
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proactive, self-motivated, adaptable, hands-on and able to juggle multiple priorities
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work effectively with third-party vendors, colleagues and other Wealth Management stakeholders
  • High attention to detail
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, Visio, Project
