Province House is one of the oldest legislative buildings in continuous use in North America and has been designated both a National Historic Site and a Provincial Heritage Property.

The Nova Scotia Legislature is the legislative branch of the Government of Nova Scotia. It is made up of democratically elected representatives (the MLAs) who form the House of Assembly, and the Lieutenant Governor.

The Legislative Assembly makes laws, controls provincial public spending, and monitors and questions the executive branch’s policies and action.

As our Coordinator, House of Assembly Operations, you will assist the Manager in all areas to ensure the smooth operation and management of Province House as it relates to :

  • Ensuring all required services are delivered to the House and its 51 members during sittings of the Legislature;
  • Coordinating the protocol and hospitality for all official visits, ceremonies, conferences, receptions, dinners and other major events conducted at Province House; and,
  • Preserving and presenting Province House as a significant provincial historic site for educational, cultural, social and attraction appeal to visiting citizens as well as national and international visitors in reflecting Nova Scotia history.
  • Primary Accountabilities

    You will contribute to the effective operations at Province House by recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, motivating and providing payroll approval for support staff (pages and tour guides) during the House of Assembly sessions and for the summer tour season.

    This position is responsible for the bookings of meetings, rooms and events at Province House, including giving tours to visitors

    This includes logistical planning, setting up and rearranging furniture and supplies (requires physical effort), organizing staff schedules and activities, securing supplies and communicating with and directing service suppliers (catering, security, technical services, maintenance, etc.

    on detailed requirements and priorities. Extended work hours are required when the house sits and when hosting conferences.

    Qualifications and Experience

    You have post-secondary education in a related field (such as Business, Hospitality or Facilities Management) and progressive experience in similar roles.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

    Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role, as is experience with managing events, staff training and supervision.

    You enjoy working in a team environment and rolling up your sleeves to get things done. You have a proven ability to establish and maintain productive and collaborative working relationships with peers, clients, staff, and a broad range of stakeholders as well as a client / customer focus and strong attention to quality and detail.

    An interest in historical education and buildings, familiarity with the legislative process, and bilingualism are assets.

    Leadership competencies required at this level of work are : Analytical Thinking, Action Management, Developing Others, Team Leadership, Effective Interactive Communication, Interpersonal Understanding, and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

    We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools : written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

    Pay Grade : EC 07

    Salary Range : $2,003.20 - $2,474.54 Bi-Weekly
