This position is responsible for the daily scheduling of all inbound Walmart Freight Program (WFP), Direct to Store (DSD), Collect / DC Transfer loads, LCV and deliveries to distribution centers / stores to ensure timely and efficient delivery.
Creates daily dispatch schedules using the Walmart Transportation Management System (WTMS) for loads going to the distribution centers or to consolidation centers by assigning appropriate carriers.
Builds loads by arranging for multiple vendors on each load and assigning the appropriate carriers based on the WFP carrier vendor / listing and the carrier ranking by lane assignment supplied by Walmart Canada.
Effective communication with transportation personnel and internal and external customers, problem solving with vendors, carriers and the client, arranging vendor pick-ups by contacting the carrier companies, and moving freight from vendors across Canada and the U.
S to the distribution centers in a timely fashion at a reasonable cost.
Analyzes transportation planning opportunities to reduce transportation costs.
Liaises with vendors, sites and carriers for day-to-day inquiries as well as tracking and tracing orders.
Dispatch duties include and are not limited to tendering / Carrier Assignment, Stock Transfers, SCC / ECC loads, HVDC / PDC loads, Cross Dock’s, Offsite Tendering,
E Commerce etc. as required and accessorial charges to our business partners.
The position requires confidentiality in dealing with Walmart information and specific business operating policies and procedures of the company.
Daily carrier load reports and distribution center late load reports.
Cross trains, and assists in other areas of the department as required.
Responsible, at the personal level, for the overall Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Compliance of themselves and co-workers.
Other duties as assigned.
Canada Walmart Division
Community College diploma in Traffic and Transportation or related field and or a minimum of three years’ experience in a related position
Intermediate PC skills and the ability to adapt to new applications WTMS, EDI, GACA, Remedy, DC yard and the HOST systems.
Ability to use company phone for vendors / carriers enquiries. (Computer skills assessment will be used during the selection process)
Decision making abilities in order to select most cost effective carriers
Excellent organization, judgment and problem solving skills including responding to team members, vendor and client inquiries and / or discrepancies and resolving problems related to delays
Proven ability to work independently, showing effective time management and within guidelines / established procedures.
Ability to work flexible shifts, long weekends (including stat holidays) and overtime as required.
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal with a pleasant and professional telephone manner.
Detail orientated with a high level of accuracy accompanied by the ability to cope with high workload, while meeting required deadlines in a fast paced environment.
Good time management and stress control skills.
Bilingual French viewed as an asset for interaction with the Quebec Carriers, Vendors or the Stores.
