JOB OVERVIEW

Ensure the production of high-quality, strategic medical communication programs and materials for pharmaceutical clients.

Manage the editorial progression of jobs from approved copy to print stage, ensuring that optimum communication is achieved through effective use of words and design.

Act as editorial lead on account team / teams, providing in-depth knowledge and expertise on strategically focused or complex accounts.

Essential Functions

  • Carry out editorial / project management work as required, producing the full range of communication materials in accordance with the needs of the client, target audience and publication medium.
  • Lead designated project team(s), ensuring the high quality and timely delivery of communication programmes and materials for assigned projects.
  • Line-manage as required and coach, mentor and train junior team-members.
  • Provide editorial advice / consultancy in areas of expertise, and provide direction, support and troubleshooting for project team(s) to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Assist in maintaining overall quality control (QC) in Editorial Department, ensuring that all items are QC checked, and monitor published items to ensure they are of the highest quality for agreed specification and budget.
  • Assist in maintaining consistency of both editorial content and page layout / design across multi-item projects.

  • Liaise with project account teams on project planning / forecasting / scheduling, in order to effectively manage prioritization and division of workloads, and provide forecasts on freelance / recruitment needs.
  • Attend and proactively contribute to project status / priorities meetings.

  • Assist in estimating editorial hours for budgets as required. Assist in the development and implementation of production schedules, and deliver assigned projects and tasks in accordance with budgeted hours and agreed deadlines.
  • Monitor progress of projects and communicate any variances to timelines / budgeted specifications to account managers.

  • Monitor procedures and processes to ensure project team(s) operate at maximum efficiency.
  • Contribute to account / new business development, attending brainstorm meetings and assisting in the development of proposals.

    Skills and Abilities

    Skill / Ability Description Proficiency

    Strong computer skills, including MS office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Internet and reference management programs.

    Familiarity with publication planning databases an advantage.

    Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

    Demonstrable editorial experience across a wide range of accounts, including publication planning programmes, symposium and exhibition materials, new business proposals and promotional materials, for a range of audiences.

    Extensive knowledge of the medical communications industry.

    Ability to monitor team outputs, ensuring all edited materials meet client marketing objectives.

    Excellent attention to detail.

    Excellent copy-editing and proofing skills, to a standard appropriate for QC sign-off.

    Proficiency in layout-checking / copy-fitting, to a standard appropriate for QC sign-off.

    Full understanding of current print / production procedures and timelines.

    Ability to review the work of colleagues and provide constructive feedback.

    Strong coaching and mentoring skills, and ability to delegate effectively.

    Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

    Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively.

    Ability to work to tight timelines, and to organize / motivate colleagues to meet team deadlines.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers, clients and suppliers.

    Commercial focus / financial awareness, and ability to provide accurate hours estimates.
