Accounts Payable Specialist Full-Time

The Vancouver Native Health Society is a registered charity located in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. We have provided a variety of health and social services since 1990 with a mission to improve the health status of Aboriginal people.

We are seeking a full-time Accounts Payable specialist.

Position Summary :

Using Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains), the Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of the Accounts Payable department.

The position involves the full cycle of Payables including the processing and monitoring of payments and expenditures. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills.

The Accounts Payable Specialist will continuously review functions within the department to maintain a high level of efficiencies, produce report and assist the finance department as requested.


  • Oversees all Accounts Payable processes, including backup for other team members.
  • Produces and reviews weekly invoicing, check runs, EFT processes to verify required approvals and accurate coding is complete.
  • Performs data entry of invoices into Microsoft Great Plains including coding to multiple programs, account codes, as necessary.
  • Partners with Program Co-ordinators to facilitate smooth and timely processing of invoices.
  • Performs month end close, accruals, account reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Responsible for year-end reconciliations and assisting in collecting information for the audit.
  • Works closely with Finance team to ensure special requests are completed in a timely matter.
  • Ensures timely payments of vendor invoices and internal requisitions.
  • Correspond with vendors and respond to vendors inquiries when necessary.
  • Monitors and tracks all credit card usage ensuring timely recording of all expenses.
  • Ensures proper cut-off of payables at month-end for financials statement process.
  • Ensures new and existing vendor information and balances are kept current throughout the year.
  • Adheres to all internal policies, procedures and complies with GAAP regulatory requirements.
  • Creates other ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Job Requirements

  • Associates degree in accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and / or experience.
  • 3 years experiences with essential duties above.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Attention to details and high level of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to function as a team player and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Job Preferences

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or 2nd or 3rd level CPA Student.
  • Experience in Non-Profit or Community Health.
  • Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) experience
  • Position and Wage :

    Wage : Commensurate with experience
