    Registered Practical Nurse

    Integrated Rehab Unit (IRU)

    Complex Care and Recovery Program

    Position Description

    The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a part-time, temporary (1 year) Registered Practical Nurse to work on the Integrated Rehabilitation Unit (IRU).

    As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide recovery-oriented psychiatric and general nursing care. You will be expected to ensure safety and security of the client care environment, and to practice in accordance with regulatory standards, CAMH Policies and Procedures, and the CAMH Practice Model of Care.

    Using a primary nursing model, you will collaborate with the primary nurse to perform ongoing assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client care for clients with complex mental illness.

  • As a member of a interprofessional team, the RPN will be responsible for working with patients from diverse backgrounds, contributing to program development;
  • participating in clinical supervision; and providing education support and supervision to students. Your skills also include the ability to make behavioral observations, conduct physical and mental status assessments, and monitor a client’s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions.

    You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, recovery-oriented practices, trauma-informed care, psychosocial rehabilitation, severe and persistent mental illness, concurrent disorders, and best practices in mental health nursing.

    Your strengths include an ability to perform assessments, develop, implement and document, interprofessional client centered care plans.

    You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all the applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

    This position involves eight hour shift rotation and weekend work. This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.


    The successful candidate must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and able to practice without restrictions and possess a current B.

    C.L.S. (CPR) at the HealthCare Provider Level. The candidate must have medication administration certification or completion of an RPN education preparation program that includes medication administration.

    You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team.

    Preference will be given to candidates who possess a strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, addiction issues and risk assessments.

    You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour.

    Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and / or addictions is required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behavior.

    The successful candidate will be a self-directed team player who is highly organized and has the communication and interpersonal skills that enable them to work within a inter-

    disciplinary collaborative team environment. Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is also required.

    Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French / English) and / or proficiency in a second language is also considered an asset.

    Please Note : This part-time, temporary (1 year) position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.

    Salary Range : $27.22 $32.50 per hour
