Clerk Typist / Receptionist

Casual Part Time position

Provides administrative and clerical support for the Program including telephone and reception duties compiling statistics and preparing billing statements.

Contribute to safe, quality care by

  • Proofread gross dictation and clinical history
  • Enter physicians and clinical history where required in pathology reports
  • Monitor LIS system Fax Logs and distribute patient reports as required
  • Build / edit new and existing physicians in Pathology LIS system
  • Distribute consultation letters to Pathologists, then scan for sign-out
  • Record, scan, distribute and photocopy incoming results from outside sources
  • Scan results from send out labs, Ministry of Health reports, and neonatal results
  • Complete Pathologist on-call schedule and distribute
  • Package and send out slides
  • Send out blood bank products and antibody notification letters monthly
  • Handling all patient records through the use of Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)
  • Distribution of Medical Imaging reports both internally and externally
  • Liaising with other facilities to share patient records within the continuum of care in accordance with applicable Health Privacy Legislation
  • Maintain accurate records pertaining to reports and images
  • Ensures client / patient confidentiality is maintained
  • What must you have?

  • Secretarial / Office Administration certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in an acute healthcare facility.
  • What else do you bring?

  • Previous experience in PACS environment and medical imaging hospital film library, preferred.
  • Medical terminology certificate required or completion within 3 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of the HIS / RIS and LIS systems
  • Able to discern relevant information to make effective judgments and decisions.
  • Computer skills in a Windows environment with knowledge of a variety of computer programs / applications.
  • I.e. Windows XP, Word, Excel, Microsoft, Outlook etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Primary assignment at the Mackenzie Health Richmond Hill Main Site; however may be assigned to the Oak Ridge’s Satellite site or Vaughan satellite site locations based on operational needs.
  • Able to prioritize appropriately to effectively deal with a variety and volume of work.
  • Proven interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal English skills.
  • Ability to speak a second language, an asset.
  • Self-motivated to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Experience in statistical analysis an asset.
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Effectively uses empathy in interactions with others.
