  • The Quality Assurance Coordinator (QAC) supports the daily administration and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS) within Seaspan Shipyards;
  • provides analytical and organizational support for the QA department and other departments as required.

    Duties / Accountabilities

  • The position reports directly to the Senior Quality Assurance Representative (QAR); the position has no direct reports.
  • This role works primarily within Vancouver Shipyards (but on occasion with other Shipyards business lines) to ensure that all controlled documents reflect the methods and techniques currently in use and that the resulting service level from these procedures meets customer and quality expectations.
  • He / she works primarily with employees and managers within VSY as directed, ensuring that high quality service is carried out in a timely and efficient manner.

  • The incumbent assists in maintaining the QMS for Seaspan Shipyards in a manner consistent with the Seaspan Shipyards Quality Policy, ISO 9001 standard, and operational requirements.
  • The position combines technical skills, a high level of computer competency, effective communication skills and excellent understanding of document control processes (to meet the standards of the QMS).
  • This position requires the incumbent to work independently and interact with all levels within the organization from Senior Management to front line staff.

  • Management of shipyards controlled documentation through maintaining the Quality Assurance SharePoint. Propose edits to documentation to improve consistency and meet quality management systems requirements.
  • Ensure controlled documents have adequate review prior to issuance.

  • By direction of Senior QAR, other duties / tasks may be assigned to this position.
  • Education and Experience

  • Completion of a Grade 12 education, supplemented by a Post-secondary Diploma / Degree in Quality Management Systems, Office Administration, or Records Management or an equivalent amount of relevant education and experience.
  • Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 9001, and the Shipyards QMS policies and procedures
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and SharePoint)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language
  • Excellent technical, analytical, presentation, organizational, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Exercise good judgement and maintain a professional demeanour, integrity and honesty in all situations. Demonstrates tact, diplomacy, and creative problem solving abilities
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations and work environments
  • Ability to prioritize heavy work-loads
  • Ability to work well under pressure, individually and as part of a team
  • Demonstrates initiative, active listening skills, and is action / result-oriented
  • Ability to collaborate with teams and focus people’s energy and attention on bringing various priorities together to achieve set goals and objectives
