Job Overview

Wawanesa is looking for an exceptional candidate to take on the role of Senior Actuarial Analyst or Actuarial Analyst II in our expanding Pricing Research and Development team.

As a member of our Pricing R&D team, your focus will be on improving our pricing sophistication, best practices, and evaluating new methods and data sources to support the advancement of our regional pricing teams.

You will provide contributions to the actuarial group based on knowledge from the actuarial exam system, and prior relevant academic or work experience.


  • Research, extract, manipulate, and test the value of complex data from relevant sources
  • Identify relationships, problems / issues, and assess data quality
  • Actuarial and Statistical Methods

  • Create and validate models to answer business questions as assigned
  • Incorporate, understand and transfer knowledge of current methods, while ensuring completeness and accuracy
  • Review current methods against relevant best practices and recommend improvements as needed
  • Efficiency

  • Identify opportunities for automation of routine tasks
  • Develop creative new approaches to problem solving
  • Communication

  • Collaborating closely with various other teams to solve complex problems
  • Develop and deliver presentations to the actuarial groups
  • Qualifications

  • Undergraduate University degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study
  • Credit for 5 CAS Exams
  • 2 years work experience in insurance or related field
  • Experience with relevant modeling software such as Emblem, Classifier or Radar is considered an asset
  • Robust knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to translate problem solving methods and ideas to various computer languages efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to apply knowledge of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to problems in insurance
  • Understanding of database systems and how to interpret / extract data from those systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate at the right level of complexity for the audience
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner
  • Works efficiently and cooperatively in a team environment and involve others when appropriate
  • Ability to ask effective questions to elicit detailed and relevant information
