About the role

As a Claims Consultant in our Specialty Lines team , you will handle multi-line complex claims through all distribution channels.

You will be responsible for the direct handling and monitoring of complex first party and third-party claims with exposures in Canada and Internationally.

The types of losses may include Commercial Property, Energy, Equipment Breakdown, Environmental Liability and additional Specialty Claims.

LOCATION : National

Primary responsibilities :

  • Manage, Investigate, analyze, negotiate and resolve large and complex claims generally with exposures over $500K or involving specialized kind of loss;
  • Engage and manage external counsel, consultants, independent adjusters, accountants and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability and assess damages;
  • Lead, supervise, guide and provide technical advise to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling;
  • Audit Regional Claims files and report to management on results;
  • Train colleagues on complex claims handling;
  • Work with Underwriting and Loss Prevention to identify potential risks, hazards and trends;
  • Provide brilliant customer service to Brokers, Customers, and Colleagues
  • Deliver and exceed on all key performance indicators as it relates to loss development and loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control and expense management;
  • Leverage your expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support a model of best practice operations;
  • Effectively negotiate claims when appropriate;
  • Attend settlement conferences and trials.

  • Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience with direct handling of large and complex property claims.
  • Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position
  • Undergraduate Degree or CIP designation (asset)
  • Flexible to travel as needed
