JOB SUMMARY :
The Oncology Nurse, as a member of the interdisciplinary team, participates collaboratively in the assessment, teaching and administration of chemotherapy.
As the key contact person and navigator for patients, she / he will support the patient throughout their cancer journey, facilitating referrals within the cancer centre, GRH and community.
The Oncology Nurse will participate in the development and implementation of patient treatment plans; quality improvement processes and will support education and research initiatives.
The successful candidate will work within the Outpatient Clinics and Chemotherapy Suite. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Oncology foundations course from the deSouza Institute completion preferred but enrollment acceptable
deSouza nurse navigation course recommended
Chemotherapy and biotherapy oncology course completion mandatory
Chemotherapy certification required
Demonstrated proficiency in IV initiation and Venous Access Device management mandatory
Canadian Nurses Association certification as a Certified Oncology Nurse (CONC) preferred.
Canadian Nurses Association certification required within 3 years of hire
Minimum of 3 years recent experience in oncology nursing
Demonstrated experience in working within a multi disciplinary team
Working with a variety of computer systems and software applications
Participation in education and clinical training programs
Good attendance record
Principles of oncology and palliative care nursing and adult learning
Therapeutic communication techniques
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently
Knowledge in patient-focused care and the needs of the oncology patient population
