DUTIES

Brief description of the project :

Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is looking for a qualified content expert / curriculum consultant to review CMNS 3201 : Citizen and Consumer Identities in Networked Culture.

Students explore the practices and responsibilities of the citizen and the consumer in the context of networked culture, considering ways in which these roles are defined and distinguished in digital space.

Particular focus is placed on the question of control over access to knowledge and information and on the interdependence of social participation and surveillance through digital platforms.

As well, students explore methods and models for citizen activism and civic engagement through networked platforms. Students learn to engage the inherent contradictions and tensions within these issues as they focus on how keywords are deployed within a variety of cultural narratives.

Course Development Process :

The content expert / curriculum consultant will work under the guidance of an instructional designer, and in collaboration with the course development team, to provide the following :

1. Input into the planning phase, including the review of a detailed blueprint or course framework that includes relevant learning outcomes and mapping out course activities, assessments and updated resources.

2. Review of content, learning activities and authentic assessments to ensure that they are relevant and appropriate for a standard web course.

TRU-OL uses a collaborative approach to course development that involves interactive planning meetings and review sessions as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Criteria for assignment of work :

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of the following criteria :

  • Terminal degree in the area of Communication, Journalism, or a closely-related discipline preferred.
  • Professional communication and / or journalism industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstration of current and ongoing engagement in the course subject matter through research and / or the scholarship of teaching, including the dissemination of outcomes in appropriate academic venues.
  • Proven course development skills in a face-to-face or distance environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to write in a clear and consistent style with grammatical accuracy.
  • The ability to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner.
  • Experience or education in online course development or online facilitation is an asset.
  • Pay Band
