Responsible to : Manager, Wesley Halton Housing Services

Purpose :

To assist vulnerably housed individuals and social housing communities through the planning and implementation of recreational activities based on individual and group social, practical and leisure needs.

This is an exciting opportunity for professionals who have demonstrated expertise in one or more of following; housing first, housing with supports on site, residential therapeutic programs, therapeutic recreation programs in these settings.

Our ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications attributes :

  • A passion for supporting communities in need through client-centered housing approaches that focus on the social determinants of health
  • Ability to build rec therapy programming for face-to-face supports, as well as virtual / digital supports for clients across Halton Region
  • Working with community resources to build unique resources for clientele to support isolation and community accessibility
  • Post-secondary degree / diploma in Human Services or related field with a background in recreation leadership and / or related experience.
  • Experience working with adults with mental health and addictions issues and the homeless and providing supports to them.
  • Knowledge of the recovery and harm reduction models
  • Ability to deal with confidential information and possess excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to form helping relationships based on trust and empowerment
  • Evidence as a highly motivated team player, with proven ability to take initiative and be self-directed.
  • Experience in case management techniques, non-violent crisis intervention and First Aid / CPR.
  • Excellent computer, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to meet travel requirements of the job requirements
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts including day, evening and weekend hours
