GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc., (GTI) specializes in underwater acoustic transducers and systems and has been recognized as a leading provider of specialized surveillance software for a variety of applications including military sonar (multistatic-active, passive, mine hunting), marine mammal monitoring, and ocean observation.

GTI’s ability to provide integrated, end-to-end sonar systems, including software, winch and handling systems, sets us apart from the rest.

We are currently seeking a Jr. Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering group. The successful applicant will join one of our small design teams, reporting to the Engineering Manager and working with a verity of multidisciplinary team members.

The engineer will execute both mechanical and system-level design and development tasks. We have a fast-paced, agile work environment where the efforts and abilities of each employee play a crucial role in a project’s success.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about their work and has a desire to continue to improve and expand their abilities.

Qualifications must include formal engineering training from a recognized university. Compensation is competitive and will depend on qualifications and experience.


  • Specialize in underwater acoustic transducers and systems
  • Design and manufacture hydrophones and sound projectors
  • Develop new, cutting edge marine acoustic technology
  • Design and build large-scale, complex, end-to-end marine acoustic systems, leveraging our in-house mechanical, electrical, software and program management expertise
  • Consult on the integration and testing of acoustic systems

  • Work with a multidisciplinary group of experienced and skilled designers, to develop innovative marine acoustic technologies
  • Mechanical engineering design and documentation of sonar components to company and industry standards, in collaboration with team members and senior designers
  • Hardware build and test activities; test hardware, test plans, safety, and test reports
  • Review and refinement of requirements specifications
  • Support the creation of systems documentation : interface control drawings, component interconnect diagrams, installation support documents and user manuals
  • Technical leadership, presenting in and attending design reviews, mentoring, and design oversight of subordinate’s work
  • Organizing material procurement, cost control; build coordination, creation and maintenance of build and test documentation
  • Supporting and ensuring adherence to our Quality Management System

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Motivated and enjoys fast-paced challenging work
  • Technical curiosity and passion about your field of work
  • Experience using 3D CAD
  • Competent with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good technical writing skills
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Government Security Clearances
