Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care (Yee Hong) is the largest not-for-profit long-term care and seniors service organization in Canada.

Yee Hong operates 805 long-term care beds at four sites and also provides a wide array of community-based programs and in-home services to support over 15,000 seniors and caregivers to live independently in their own homes across the Greater Toronto Area.

Yee Hong delivers high quality and culturally appropriate services to enable seniors to live their lives to the fullest in the healthiest, most independent and dignified ways.

Yee Hong’s annual operating budget is over $80M. Yee Hong operates in the Central and Central East Ontario Health Regions and participates in four Ontario Health Teams.

The organization also builds system leadership and capacity with their advocacy, research, education / training, consulting and caregiver support offerings.

Yee Hong continues to explore new ways of delivering services, promoting innovation, collaboration and a culture of excellence throughout the organization of 1,300 employees.

During a period of rapid healthcare system transformation and growth, Yee Hong has been awarded with licenses with their system partners to build 800 new long-term care beds and is building other seniors housing, including a life lease building, and retirement homes with Yee Hong Seniors Living.

Yee Hong recently opened a 10-bed residential hospice in November 2020 and is providing virtual palliative care in the community.

Yee Hong’s Private Career College offers a Personal Support Worker Certificate and leadership development program.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This exciting and multi-faceted Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role provides visionary and strategic leadership for the overall financial health and well-being of the organization across the full continuum of resident, client and system care / services at Yee Hong.

The CFO is accountable for strategic and fiduciary financial investment and management responsibilities of the organization and ensures outstanding financial stewardship, integrity and accountability in conjunction with various Committees and the Board.

As a key member of the senior leadership team, the CFO actively contributes to the development and implementation of Yee Hong’s strategic plan and priorities.

The CFO will be an inspirational and transformative leader who drives organizational longevity, innovation, change and growth internally and with external partners.

The CFO will be expected to :

Oversee and provide leadership to the Finance and Accounting, and Business Services departments, and work with multiple and different business units.

Innovate by evaluating, visioning, constructively challenging and restructuring Yee Hong, including the finance department and its strategies, organizational structure, technology, policies and practices to become innovative, strategically focused and commensurate with the size and growth plans of the organization.

Promote operational excellence and achieve cost savings and efficiencies year over year to ensure long-term financial growth, management, and sustainability.

Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative organizational and financial strategies to facilitate sustainability and growth through debt and equity, capital markets financing, and investment strategies.

He / she will proactively seek and evaluate new and innovative sources of revenue and investment (both public and private) to grow Yee Hong.

Balance short, medium and long-term priorities to achieve immediate results, including to renew financial practices / policies and optimize existing resources.

Build the organization for the future through new program / service growth, equity investments and other financial instruments / approaches to support capital build expansion, process and policy renewal, and ERP / technology, among others.

Work collaboratively with other departments of Yee Hong, the Board of Directors, other Yee Hong Entities (Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation and Yee Hong Seniors Living) and with public and private funders / investors, as well as other stakeholders to achieve fiscal and operational excellence.

Develop progressive relationships with other public / private partners to generate and leverage resources.

THE CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, skills and attributes :

An undergraduate degree and / or MBA in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or a related field along with an accounting designation.

Progressive responsibility and experience with financial strategy / planning, accounting, audit procedures and financial operations, including ideally previous experience working closely with a Board’s Finance / Resources Committee.

Keenly self-aware and possess exceptional emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.

Cultural humility and ability to lead, influence, and manage people within a culturally sensitive and diverse environment.

Familiar with Business Services such as procurement, asset management and some business transaction services.

Experience with financing and overseeing large capital / construction projects.

Public sector experience with ability to understand funding requirements and to be familiar with public sector systems / approaches.

Experience in presenting to and working with a dedicated Board of Directors comprised of individuals with not-for-profit and private sector experience.

Able to thrive in a complex, fast-paced, dynamic and adaptive learning environment with a CEO and senior team seeking innovation, efficiency and accountability for results.

Ability to develop and evaluate complex financial and business cases models / scenarios and recommendations for investments, partnerships, acquisitions, etc.

Ability to not only work with, but constructively scrutinize and analyze actuarial findings as part of the regular review of operational results and assumptions associated with budgeting, forecasting, and strategy development.

Demonstrated experience in financial and management reporting processes / dashboards and information systems including internal control systems.

Exceptionally strong business and financial acumen coupled with an innovative mindset, results orientation, and ability to optimize resources with a continuous improvement lens.

A professional, approachable and collaborative, engaging others in the organization, openly inviting and exchanges ideas and welcoming of diverse perspectives.

Ability to inspire and mentor staff and delegate appropriately, fostering staff accountability and responsibility.

Experience with working with other related entities such as Foundations and subsidiaries and developing innovative partnerships and joint ventures would be an asset, underpinned by transaction, deal assessment and structuring financial scenarios for joint ventures, acquisitions and merger opportunities.

Innovation mindset and proven ability to act as a key strategic advisor and partner to the CEO and ability to work cohesively with other senior leaders, and the Board.

The new CFO must also have extensive knowledge of :

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), consolidation theory and practice, modern controllership, financial and accounting theories and practices, in order to set the financial framework and oversee the financial operations of Yee Hong, to provide specialized financial expertise, advice and leadership, and to set accounting standards and ensure compliance.

Financial policy / procedures and technology / systems design / development principles and methods to develop and implement a range of financial and business processing / operational policies / procedures and corporate systems to meet audit and other requirements.

Strategic planning and setting priorities and directions, capital planning, capital campaign projections and operations.

All relevant legislation and regulations to ensure compliance.

Current broad-based systems and technology, including architecture, business analysis, applications, and infrastructure.
