UAL is actively involved in partnerships such as the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) Portage National Data Network, Consortia for Advancing Standards in Research Administrative Information (CASRAI), Data Liberation Initiative (DLI), and the Canadian ORCID Consortium.

Reporting to the Head, Digital Repository and Research Data Management Services in the Digital Initiatives Unit, and working within a team-

oriented environment, the Research Data Management Services Coordinator will participate in and help shape all phases of the planning and development of a wide range of research data management initiatives, including proposal development, project plans, workflow coordination, quality assessment, training, and communications.

The incumbent works closely with a very strong technical and professional cohort, and together, will support ventures across the full spectrum of the Libraries’ research data initiatives, including new and emerging areas driven by digital scholarship and data-

driven research. The Coordinator will consult with key campus stakeholders to advance high-quality Research Data Management practices and policy development and will advise the Library on major trends on campus, nationally, and internationally that will require strategic and organizational response and / or introduce opportunities for service.

  • Graduate degree with a minimum 2 to 3 years of practical experience in managing data; librarian candidates must have an MLIS degree or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in having worked within a research data-oriented library setting, or be able to otherwise show direct involvement with working directly with data
  • Demonstrated involvement in regional or national research data planning initiatives preferred
  • Knowledge of the research lifecycle, including specific skills around structuring research data and its organization for analysis and use, including metadata and international practices used to manage and curate research data is highly desirable
  • Experience with a variety of data formats, services, tools, research methodologies, and points of access will be a strong asset
  • Experience with partnerships to advance research data management principles and practices both in broad collaborative practice and strategically within institutions is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated excellence in leading and participating on service teams, including strong skills in soliciting and integrating feedback for service development and outreach strategies
  • Ability to knowledgeably communicate with senior researchers and other stakeholders within and outside the university to address and advise on research data management for long-
  • term access and preservation

  • Strong service orientation; interest in implementing new initiatives
  • Strong desire to stay on the leading edge of research data management and curation in theory and practice; demonstrated interest in supporting the goals of the Libraries and its interest in research data management and stewardship
  • High level problem solving abilities, superior leadership skills and a commitment to cooperative action and collaborative work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • This position may fall under the Librarian or the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
