IoT PLC Developer
In this newly created position we are looking for a candidate who is eager to be at the forefront of new technology. The candidate should have a deep understanding of PLC code development and machine communications protocols, along with significant experience in fast-paced manufacturing and production environments, so as to effectively contribute to the development of our growing IoT platform.
This role may require up to10% international travel.

To support training and provide the necessary foundation for code development, the candidate will be tasked with six to twelve months of System Support prior to undertaking core PLC development.
System Support :
Connect to machines with various control systems to extract the required data signals to send to the Allen Bradley data concentrator using AB native protocols or implementing KEPWARE communications across various controls platforms.
Hands-on interaction with a large variety of control systems to understand processes and extract the required SCADA data signals for monitoring within an MES / IoT system.
Troubleshoot machine communications to support data transfers to control systems.
Work directly with machine and automationbuilders for LMMS Compliance during machine builds and support of IP changes and signal extraction as applicable.
Engage in continuous learning by attending formal professional development seminars and conferences as needed. Conduct self-directed studies by reading journals and trade publications.
Must be aware of new technologies and advances in the Controls and automation field.
LMMS Development :
With full system understanding based on supporting the system, the candidate will contribute to the core PLC programdevelopment for specific modules within Linamar’s IoT Platform (LMMS) under the direction of the LMMS Systems Architect and LMMS PLC Controls leader.
Closely follow programming standards anddirection and contribute in Standards development.
Document changes made and best practices on machine connection and signal extraction
The ideal candidate will have understanding and experience in working with the following technologies that are backbone of our LMMS / IoT platform :
Expert-level knowledge in Allen Bradley PLC program development to contribute to other expert-level developers
Allen Bradley Studio
Allen Bradley Studio Factory Talk Transaction Manager (FTTM)
Good working knowledge of Kepware Manufacturing Suite, XML, JSON
Experience and knowledge on data, datastructure, database and data manipulation.
Understanding of the fundamentals of SQL 2016
The following would be a definite asset :
Knowledge and experience in programming Siemens PLCs / Step7 / TIA Portal
additional knowledge of Fanuccontrols, would be a definite asset.
Demonstrated knowledge of factory-floor datanetworking and machine communications (Ethernet, TCP / IP, OPC )
Trade license in Industrial Electrical Maintenance (442A) an asset but not required.
Direct experience of shop-floor automation build & support in a high production environment.
