The Calgary Animal Referral and Emergency Centre (CARE Centre) is seeking a full time Veterinary Technician Assistant to join our dedicated and dynamic Oncology team.
The CARE Centre is a 24-hour emergency and referral specialty hospital. We are committed to supporting pet owners and the veterinary community by providing the highest level of emergency and referral care.
The primary role of the Oncology Veterinary Technician Assistant is to assist the AHTs and veterinarians with daily tasks and patient care.
They are also the hands-on caregivers for our patients in hospital including feeding, walking and general cleanliness of patient and their housing to make their stay most comfortable.
The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be compassionate with the ability to adapt to the needs of their clients who can be going through emotionally difficult situations with their pets.
This is a highly administrative and teamwork based position which requires the candidate to help direct the daily flow of the service.
The successful candidate will help to manage the schedule including booking new consultations and rechecks, interacting with clients, animal restraint and husbandry, laboratory work either running samples or submitting to external laboratories, assisting with chemotherapy, and administration duties such as faxing, filing and collecting payments.
Communication is a key feature of this role from initiating appointment through seeing the clients through discharge. Excellent communication skills are essential to this role with extensive client and referring veterinary interactions.
Verbal and written communication skills are critical, along with interpersonal and problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

The CARE Centre is a fast-paced environment so the ability to multi-task is essential. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to thrive in our strongly team-based environment, as well as to provide the exceptional client experience the CARE Centre is known to offer.
Previous or equivalent veterinary experience is preferred.
In this role, candidates may be asked to be available to work all shifts (including weekdays / weekends and overnights) to accommodate the C.
A.R.E. Centre’s 24 hour hospital. However; routine schedule will be Monday-Thursday 10 hour shifts..
