Job Overview

The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing inspections, checks, tests and completing applicable documentation for incoming products, parts and components used in the manufacture of hard rock mining equipment and parts, in-

process or finished. The position may also be responsible for performing inspections, checks, tests and completing applicable documentation for outgoing hard rock mining products to ensure products are being produced in accordance with company quality standards and customer requirements.

Must also maintain a safe, clean and productive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection of machined or purchased parts, components, subassemblies or finished company products to ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Products may include components, parts, frames, etc.)

  • Perform product inspections using defined criteria of standard physical, mechanical and / or electrical measurements.
  • Recommend non-conforming products for reworking or disposing.
  • Use a variety of measurement equipment including micrometers, thread gauges, dial bore gauges, etc.
  • Monitor and maintain critical equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and calibration.
  • Complete inspection and testing records accurately and gather data necessary to finalize and approve products for outgoing shipment.
  • Perform various SAP transactions to process non-conformances and / or material movements between SLOC locations for inspected parts.
  • Understand and follow quality standards and processes. Fill out NCR rejects and other documentation accurately.
  • Communicate inspection results to appropriate people. Develop and / or use inspection check sheets as required.
  • Maintain all controlled document files and test records in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in the construction and / or revision of SOPs for the inspection function.
  • Assist in the writing and updating inspection procedures, protocol and checklists.
  • Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action to supervisors.
  • Work with the Production Management and Quality Assurance teams to provide feedback to production employees regarding quality policies, procedures, standards in general and the accuracy of manufacturing specifically as it related to these guidelines.
  • Participate in technical evaluations / screening for new hire candidates and apprenticeship employees as required and transition successful candidates to interview process with assigned Production Managers.
  • Participate in OpEx initiatives / projects and or training to streamline or improve our manufacturing processes.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
  • Education / Qualification

  • College Diploma in Machining or Tool & Die, or equivalent applicable trade experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of machining-related experience.
  • Strong computer and electronics skills for operation of CMM inspection equipment and completion of resulting data analysis and reporting in Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of calibration tools within production facility.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of and applicable training in magnetic particle inspection techniques is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and applicable training in non-destructive testing techniques is an asset.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and their applications in machining / fabrication.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Accuracy and high attention to detail.
  • Documentation and filing capabilities.
  • Good computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.
  • Ability to read blue prints, drawings, schematics.
  • Good communication skills to work with multi-dimensional team.
  • Willingness to learn.
