JOB PURPOSE :
Full responsibility for operational oversight of the payroll function for all Canadian Business Units ensuring all employees are paid in accordance with Federal, Provincial and GSK requirements.
Business owner of the relationship with the payroll provider ensuring their compliance with Federal, Provincial requirements and adherence to agreed SLA’s and KPI’s.
Performance management and continuous improvement of payroll processes.
Point of contact for Human Resources Service Center team and Financial Analysts for each business unit to ensure quality payroll information, processes and reporting are in place as required.
Lead proactive and timely issue resolution for payroll escalations
Lead GSK response to government requests for information including audits
Lead the development of the Canadian payroll strategy in partnership with key internal and external stakeholders
Guide process standardization and improvement in designing a payroll solution that takes people, process and technology into consideration
Ensure that third party provider is processing all payrolls in a timely and efficient manner, appropriate tax regulations are applied, and that accurate pay-slips are provided to employees.
Hold third party provider accountable for payroll delivery in accordance with agreed SLA’s and KPI’s
Keep up to date with all legislative changes and ensure the required changes are reflected in the deliverables of the team
Ensure that an appropriate reconciliation process is in place each pay period, to confirm that the payroll agrees to Workday and that all changes have been correctly reflected.
Develop appropriate governance in partnership with third party to ensure effective functioning of payroll process
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all payroll related transactions are correct and accurate.
Support internal and external auditors as required
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (Business Admin / HR specialization preferred but not required).
5+ years managing complex Canadian payrolls
Experience in Quebec & Ontario payroll legislative requirements essential
Experience in a unionized environment a strong asset.
Canadian Payroll Association Certification (i.e.; Certified Payroll Manager), or commensurate experience required.
Experience performing payroll function across multiple provincial legislative requirements, and proven success in ensuring compliance.
Proven experience in leading audits and liaising with government agencies and representatives.
Ability to lead change management processes from a Canadian Enterprise perspective, liaising with multiple cross-functional stakeholders (Finance, HR, Tech, etc.).
Previous experience managing external vendors preferred.
Working knowledge of computer technology, Word, Excel, PPT and agility to learn new programs
Ability to interact with all levels within the organization and externally, including senior leadership, and third-party vendors.
High level of problem-solving skills, and ability to innovate and identify new efficiencies
Bilingualism an asset (not required).
High sense of initiative and have a Business Owner mindset
