Provide EH&S support to the team, Operations and Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS).
Essential Functions :
Provides EH&S support to the department as well as Processing, Pharmaceutics Process Technology (PPT), Project Management and Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS) Laboratory
JHSC audit finding closures
Department specific training
Client & auditor support
Provides Environmental Support
Completes the national pollutant release inventory (NPRI) report
Ships dangerous goods following the regulations and provide guidance to employees
Manages hazardous waste management program
Manages waste water discharge program ensuring compliance with Sewer Use By-Law
Manages New Substance Notification Regulations (NSNR) program
Completes Toxic Reduction submissions as needed
Provides Safety Support
Conducts equipment reviews
Coordinates pre-start health and safety review completion
Development of safety programs such as lock out and machine guarding
Provides IH Support
Conducts Industrial Hygiene (IH) assessments on existing products and evaluate technologies to improve containment.
Development of Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) and IH analytical methods
Development of IH sampling plans and sampling strategies
Written industrial hygiene reports and presentations
Making recommendations for improving containment, engineering controls etc., where necessary
Participating in work-teams to evaluate containment of existing processes and implement containment plans.
Completion of health effects table information and communication to all Patheon sites
Updating the health effects table and toxicity categorization databases
Develops and Implements EH&S Programs
Safety examples : Equipment and process safety reviews
Industrial hygiene examples : respiratory protection, noise and air sampling
Environment examples : Certificate of Approval for Air, NPRI, NSNR
Develops audit protocols, audit programs, procedures and practices for the EH&S Programs
Develops and conducts EH&S training
Monthly safety talks
Department specific training
New Project Risk Assessments
Attends Kick-Off Meetings and ongoing Project Meetings
Evaluates containment / industrial hygiene for new projects
Potent Compound active-specific procedures and training
Liaises with Project Managers, Process Engineers and Clients
Complete and / or assist special EH&S Projects
Provides guidance, back-up and support to other EH&S team members and Health Centre (10%)
Respiratory Protection Program and Fit Testing
Reviews and updates the respiratory protection program, as necessary.
Implements Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) maintenance and testing programs, as necessary.
Conducts respirator fit testing for employees and clients
Assists in selection and use of respiratory protection, protective clothing, hearing protection and safety glasses - plano and prescription)
May be essential to perform alternating or rotating shift work (as required) Other duties as assigned
B.Sc. or B.A. with relevant experience / completion of EHS certificate programs
1 to 3 years of previous EHS experience
1 to 3 years of Industrial Hygiene training / experience
1 to 3 years of Chemical, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical work experience
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Able to work in a fast-pace environment. Previous experience conducting presentations / training. High integrity for dealing with confidential information.
Demonstrated professionalism. Excellent interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements :
Light physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits or stands for limited periods. May require occasional equipment operation including keyboard equipment.
Lifts light items for limited duration. Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. Regular need to attend to and decipher sensory input that requires diligence and attention to interpret effectively.
