We develop and operate one of the largest scale software platforms. The fleet consists of millions of virtual machines, generating terabytes of logs and processing exabytes of data per day.

At our scale, we regularly observe cloud hardware, network, and operating system faults, and our software must gracefully shield our customers from any of the above.

To continue scaling the business, we are establishing a major engineering center in Toronto. As a first step, we are looking for engineers to form the Toronto founding team.

The team will focus on building the cloud infrastructure platform powering all of Databricks.

As a Software Engineer with a Backend focus, you will :

Be responsible for full software development lifecycle - design, development, testing, operating in production.

Drive strategic vision for the team and product.

Architect solutions to achieve a high level of reliability, scalability and security.

Roll up the sleeves and implement major functionalities.

Develop and operate micro-services, build data pipelines, integrate with 3rd party applications and cloud APIs.

Work closely with your team and product management.

Mentor and grow more junior engineers.

Evangelize and uphold our cultural principles : be customer obsessed, let the data decide, teamwork makes the dreamwork, and own it.

Competencies

BS / MS / PhD in Computer Science, or a related field

5+ years of production level experience in either Java, Scala, C++, or similar language.

Comfortable working towards a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables.

Experience in architecting, developing, deploying, and operating large scale distributed systems.

Experience working on a SaaS platform or with Service-Oriented Architectures.

Good knowledge of SQL.

Experience with software security and systems that handle sensitive data.

Experience with cloud technologies, e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes.
