The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for starting up GEA’s freezer equipment line to meet design and contract requirements.

This includes the planning and coordination of site visits with the Project Manager, Project Team Members, and the Customer.

The Commissioning Engineer verifies the performance of the equipment on-site and delivers training to the owners’ operators.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills will be critical to this individual’s success.

Responsibilities / Tasks

  • Prepare equipment for operation according to design specifications and manufacturer instructions, which would include but are not limited to, lubrication, alignment, calibration, I / O checks, safety checks, and troubleshooting.
  • Optimize freezer controls and operation through testing, adjustments, dry and production runs
  • Conduct customer training with operations, cleaning, and maintenance personnel on-site. Provide classroom sessions as well as a demonstration of the machine and control panel.
  • Consult with Project Managers, Engineers, Installation Team, Vendors, or others to assemble commissioning plans and resolve issues.
  • Responsible for completion of commissioning records and consolidation of lessons learned.
  • Available occasionally for Commissioning calls after hours and on weekends
  • Provide support for development projects, service work, and product testing.
  • Responsible for up / downloads of software applications on Allen Bradley and Siemens PC + PLC hardware platforms
  • Contribute to team efforts by completing all tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor
  • Represent GEA before customers and external stakeholders with professionalism, clear communication, and thorough knowledge of the product
  • Your Profile / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of commissioning experience is required
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems and rotating equipment
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems, implement corrections, and optimize operations
  • Food, Dairy, Brewery or Beverage industry process experience is an asset
  • Experience working with material handling and conveyor belts
  • Understanding of process technology, instrumentation, and controls
  • Working experience programming PLCs and HMIs would be a valuable asset
  • Must be willing and able to travel (approximately 50%-70% of the time)
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Works directly with the global spare parts coordinator to support customers with spare parts requests
  • Coordinates and administrates the warranty processes for new equipment and service
  • Coordinates the handover processes from new equipment to service
  • Works directly with data analyst to propose opportunities for increased service opportunities
