Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Applications, the Applications Analyst performs a variety of duties related to the implementation, development, and day-

to-day support of Inpatient Clinical Documentation packaged software and custom computer applications.

The Application Analyst will learn and support Dovetale's EpicCare Inpatient Clinical Documentation application, make recommendations for future enhancements and investigate / correct problems to optimize application use and improve business processes


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or Business, or relevant clinical field.
  • EPIC certification in EpicCare Inpatient Clinical documentation an asset
  • Three to five years of related experience in a clinical setting, supporting packaged software and custom developed applications (preferably in a healthcare environment).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multi-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated skill in business process reengineering and process flow / mapping.

  • Support various Digital Solutions and Hospital project initiatives; provide data and configuration changes, system testing, prepare documentation of change specifications and participates in go-live support.
  • Provide technical expertise and assistance in re-configuring, testing and developing, installing, tuning, upgrading and maintaining the inpatient clinical documentation application.
  • Review and discuss business problems with end users, developing flow charts and functional specifications to translate business requirements into technical requirements
  • Perform "end user" review and analysis to develop new and improved enhancements in the Dovetale system
  • Provide technical guidance for evaluation of software applications primarily departmental.
  • Analyze and reviews enhancements for compatibility, adherence to operating guidelines and performs integration testing.
  • Analyze system capacity and modify procedures to solve interface problems with applications ensuring that applications and information systems offer the highest possible reliability and performance.
  • Prepare and present status reports and ad hoc reports, create test plans, analyse test cases, identify issues and escalate them to appropriate teams and assists management in the interpretation of available information.
  • Take accountability for the "department specific" applications which are being monitored, support and enhance, using their professional knowledge in computer science and various scripting, developing and reporting tools and language.
  • Manage application changes which would result in potential downtime or downstream delays would need to be discussed with the IT Applications Manager.
  • Perform duties in a manner that demonstrates the employee’s commitment to developing a culture of patient and staff safety through accountability, reliability, trust and team work.
  • Work in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for engaging with the application vendor for support, upgrades and escalation issues as the primary contact and coordination point for issue resolution in relation to the supported inpatient clinical documentation application.
  • Responsible for participating as a co-chair of selected Application Support teams for their application, consisting of end users, members from the Clinical Applications and Digital Solutions team and vendors.
